Chapter 305
Chapter 305:
I squeezed the last report and shoved it into the waste bin. The more I got reports on discontinued projects, the angrier I became. He wasn’t even going after the lesser projects. No, Cale went for the bigger, life-changing projects that required a lot of inflow and resources—both of which had already gone into said projects.
The shrill buzz on my table broke me free from what was about to become a raging stomp around the room.
“Alex?”
“You might want to check your phone.” Always straight to the point. Pleasantries were like poison to his tongue.
I wanted to ask why, but honestly, I was too tired to pull it out of him. I opened his message to find a video. In the video was a man who couldn’t be a day over thirty. I recognized him immediately. I had interrogated him in the past, but fuck that. He was wearing the same ring as Cale. It could mean nothing, but it could also mean everything.
I redialed Alex.noveldrama
“He worked with Cale,” I blurted the moment he answered.
“Bingo.”
I should have been happy, but if there was anything I was starting to realize, it was that we thought Nathan was dangerous. Nathan wasn’t even a quarter close to Cale’s level of dangerous.
“Is there a connection? Aside from the obvious.” I mean, the ring could be one clue, but we needed more. If we were going to shove him off the seat, we’d do so gladly, but we couldn’t wing it, not when the threat was him.
Alex paused for a bit, his voice distant, like he was going over it again. “Nah. Didn’t find any.”
I never should have trusted Uncle Cale. The man was more twisted than a damn vine. We had a plan. All he had to do was stick with it. Not only did he throw that into the gutter and grab the shares he promised would go to me, but he also made himself CEO. With me as CEO, he could get his revenge, and Raina wouldn’t be affected because I would make sure to give her the reins the moment she agreed to marry me.
I bit back a grumble. Raina was definitely affected, and Uncle Dearest conveniently kept his new plan hidden from me. The worst part? He still hadn’t mentioned a peep about it to me. I had to find out using my sources. And every new piece of news just added fuel to an already burning flame.
First, I wasn’t getting the shares—my uncle robbed that. Raina was kicked out, and surprise, I didn’t get that either. Throw in the fact that she married him again, the same man who had hurt her so many times in the past, and I knew the next time I saw him, I might have to kill him. And maybe Raina too, because how could she marry the same man who made it impossible to breach her walls? I choked on the rage and hate as I turned to him, focusing on the fact that I didn’t have to remain in hiding anymore. The last time I had to be in the same room with them, things had gone as south as they could go.
Uncle Cale grinned from ear to ear, the little motion pissed me the fuck off.
“You should have seen the look on their faces.” He burst out in a hearty guffaw, sinking deeper into his seat. “Finally, the Graham throne is mine.” He beamed. “All mine.” He repeated. The length of his neck screamed at me, begging to be squeezed until he choked on his own lies.
That seat was mine. And the way he so easily tossed aside the fact that he grabbed it for himself made the urge to punch some sense into him overwhelming. That was the whole point of all the scheming and cutting corners.
“The seat was supposed to be mine. We had a plan. A very straightforward one,” I hissed, pinning him with a glare.
His smile dropped like a flat note. “And I came up with a better plan, one that didn’t involve a childish crush,” he fired back, his gaze cold and still. But I was done shrinking in the back of the crowd.
