Chapter 1831
Wilfred looked at Karina, but in the end, he didn't say what was on his mind.
"How much longer are you going to wrap it?" he asked.
Karina snapped out of her thoughts and realized she had nearly mummified his hand in bandages. "Oh, sorry! You were talking to me earlier, and I got distracted. Let me undo some of this." She carefully unwrapped a couple of outer layers, and the bandaging instantly looked much better.
Still, Karina couldn't help her worried expression. "How did you get hurt? Did you grab the knife directly earlier?"
Adjusting the bandages to feel more comfortable, Wilfred replied casually, "No, it just grazed me."
Karina's brows knit tightly together. She felt an urge to storm down to the police station and give the culprit a piece of her mind.
At the same time, she couldn't understand Wilfred's calm demeanor. He acted as if being injured was no big deal, his expression unbothered, like this was just another ordinary day.
She couldn't hold back. "You've only done basic treatment. Make sure you apply ointment when you get home, and don't let it get wet-"
"Karina," Wilfred interrupted, his tone steady. "You don't need to worry so much about me."
She froze, caught off guard.
Wilfred glanced at his hand briefly before resting it on the desk. "The wound will heal on its own. Don't fuss over it. Besides, you've got work to do. Go on, I've got another surgery scheduled." "He's seriously going into surgery like this?" she thought in disbelief.
Karina's voice immediately rose. "No way! You injured your right hand, and that's a deep cut. You can't perform surgery in this condition!"
Surgery required precision, especially for internal procedures. For a doctor, their hands were as vital as their life.
Wilfred was right-handed, and the
injury was to his dominant hand.
When Karina unwrapped the bandage earlier, she had been quietly alarmed. The cut was both deep and long, narrowly avoiding the veins and arteries, but coming dangerously close to the tendons.
It was unthinkable that Wilfred had endured the pain this long without showing any signs of discomfort.
The thought of him performing a surgery in that state made Karina's heart race.
"Wilfred, your hand isn't in any shape for a major surgery. If you insist on going through with it, it won't just be the surgery at risk-it could permanently damage your hand. Is that what you want?" she pleaded.
She knew Wilfred. He cared deeply about his patients and took his profession seriously. Framing it this way was her best chance to make him reconsider.
As expected, Wilfred fell silent for a moment, his brows furrowed. "There's no one else who can take this surgery. It has to be me."
Karina took it all in, her heart heavy with discomfort. Without thinking, she blurted out, "Then I'll do it."
The moment she said it, she startled herself. But almost immediately, a sense of determination replaced her hesitation.
"I can handle it," she said firmly. "You trained me yourself. If anyone in this hospital can step into your shoes, it's me." Wilfred looked at her deeply.noveldrama
In that moment, he realized just how much she had changed.
The Karina he once knew would
never have said something like this.
She would have hesitated, let
opportunities pass her by, unsure of her own abilities. But now, she stood before him with confidence, ready to take on the challenge.
Time had passed, and she had grown. She was no longer the timid young doctor who watched helplessly as chances slipped through her fingers.
A warm smile spread across Wilfred's face, his voice carrying a note of pride. "Alright. You do it. I'll stay and wait here for you."
Then, he handed her the patient file.
What do you think?
