Chapter 1214
Chapter 1214:
Waylon looked at Evie’s cold, indifferent posture, his eyes burning with frustration.
“Evie, won’t you introduce the man next to you? Why is he coming out of your house?”
Evie replied nonchalantly, “I’m sure you can guess. As for the name, what was it again, Lau—?”
She turned to Laurinda, who quickly replied, “Laurin Tanico, honey, I told you last night. How could you forget?”
Evie ignored her, speaking directly to Waylon.
“His name is Laurin.”
Waylon stood there, utterly flabbergasted by their casual exchange.
“Evie, are you telling me you just met last night? And you actually brought someone like this home?”noveldrama
“So what if we just met last night? Can’t we fall in love at first sight?” Laurinda stood beside Evie, towering over her with one hand resting on her waist.
She raised her chin, casting a glance at Waylon before saying, “You’re just a friend of Evie’s, not her brother. Why do you care so much?”
“Laurin, you can’t talk to my friend like that,” Evie retorted, playing her part perfectly.
“Alright.” Laurinda pouted and fell silent.
Waylon stood there, stunned by the absurdity of it all. With great difficulty, he turned to Evie.
“Evie, how can you be with a man without knowing his background? Do you know his intentions?”
Evie lowered her eyes, her voice flat.
“I don’t need to know his intentions. We drank together, got what we wanted, and I let him stay for the night. He’s treating me to breakfast now. It’s a fair exchange. We might never see each other again. Isn’t that fine?”
“But how can you be so casual about these things? You’ll get hurt…”
“Waylon,” Evie said, her tone cool, “not everyone is like you, chasing after ideal relationships. This world isn’t perfect. You should go home. We’re going to eat.”
Thunder rumbled across the sky as Evie and Laurinda departed, their car pulling away from Waylon, who stood rooted to the spot, watching them disappear into the distance.
Standing at the villa’s entrance, Waylon gazed at the familiar surroundings that now felt like a stranger’s world, as if someone had altered reality while he wasn’t looking.
“Boom—” A brilliant flash of lightning split the heavens, followed by the deep growl of thunder. As the storm descended on this fateful morning, Waylon’s world shattered like glass beneath a hammer blow.
Halfway down the road, Evie and Laurinda found a secluded spot to pull over.
Their eyes were fixed on the surveillance feed from the villa, where Waylon remained motionless as a statue. With each passing moment, anxiety gnawed deeper into Evie’s heart.
“Evie, should we go back?” Laurinda’s voice wavered as she watched Waylon’s lost expression, her own heart heavy with sympathy. Evie’s distress was palpable in the confined space of the car.
