Brooklyn stood off to the side, her expression impossible to read.

Carolyn's eyes landed on her, wide with awe and disbelief. "Whoa! Brooklyn is amazing! Where on earth did you find such a badass female bodyguard? I want one, too."

Carolyn sighed. "My family only ever hires male bodyguards. It's honestly not always convenient."

That made Allison pause, her smile fading. "By the way, why did you go to that bar alone last night? Where was your bodyguard?"

Carolyn suddenly looked awkward, fidgeting with her fingers. "If I tell you, you won't get mad at me, right?"

Allison raised an eyebrow, amused. "Why would I be mad?"

"It's just..." Carolyn looked down, a little embarrassed. "A friend called me yesterday and said she saw Joshua at that bar. I've been wanting to see him for so long. And honestly, I almost never bring a bodyguard when I go out."

She glanced up to see Allison's reaction.

"And... I really appreciate you saving me, but I need you to know I'm serious about Joshua. He's the only guy I've ever loved, all these years. I'm not giving up on him."

Allison couldn't help but chuckle. "You don't need to explain your love life to me."

Carolyn pressed her lips together, her voice turning soft. "I don't know, it just feels weird... Like, after you rescued me, liking Joshua feels kind of unfair to you."

Allison's voice was calm, almost flat. "You don't owe me anything."

Carolyn nodded, then continued, "Actually, Joshua wasn't even there last night, didn't see him at all. My friend just wanted to have a drink sa I sat with her and had a few. I don't even know what happened after that I was drugged. Everything after that is just a blur."

Allison frowned. "Who was this friend? Are you sure she wasn't in on it?"

"I don't think so..." Carolyn hesitated,

Allison shook her head, looking serious. "Carolyn, you can't be too careful. Come with me to the police station later. Tell them about your friend she's a person of interest now whether you want her to be on not. Let the police investigate whether she was involved. The case is already being treated as attempted rape. Those guys didn't succeed, but with the evidence they have, a conviction is pretty much guaranteed."

Carolyn's face turned grim, and she nodded. "Okay."

After lunch, Carolyn felt much better. She tidied up, changed clothes, and headed to the police station with Allison.

At the station, officers took her statement, then asked her to identify the men who drugged her the night before.

Carolyn didn't recognize any of them.

One officer explained, "When we asked why they did it, they all said it was just a crime of opportunity."

Carolyn told the police everything she knew, and they made careful notes.

Suddenly, one of the detained men's phones started ringing.

Even though their phones had been confiscated, none had been turned off. The screen flashed with the name "Devin."

A police officer answered. Before he could say a word, a man's urgent voice came through the line: "Where's the video? It's been hours-why haven't you sent it yet?"
