Chapter 983
Avery's face grew colder by the second, as the sunset bathed his rosary in a
fading orange glow, an icy chill seemed to envelop it, spreading silently all around.
Evadne, her lashes damp, glanced at the pebbles underfoot before turning her gaze towards Hans.
Crunch-
The man, expressionless, looked back at Evadne, her eyes red and swollen, and took a loud bite of his apple, chewing noisily.
Suddenly, a strong jolt surged through Evadne's chest.noveldrama
Her slender shoulders shuddered as she mustered all her strength to stand, to walk towards him...
Crash-the wheelchair tipped over suddenly, throwing her into the dirt.
"Evadne! Are you okay?!"
Avery panicked, trying to lift her up, only to be hysterically pushed away:
"I don't need you... I can do it myself!"
Evadne clenched her teeth, her delicate fingers digging fiercely into the muddy ground, a picture of misery but filled with determination as she struggled to her feet.
Avery was dumbfounded!
He had administered a sedative to Evadne the night before, and though it was already the next day, it should have been enough to leave her limbs weak.
In theory, she shouldn't have been able to move at all.
Perhaps, Hans's presence ignited an extraordinary willpower within her frail body, allowing her to miraculously overcome the drug's hold.
As the girl stubbornly rose from the ground, Hans, still chewing his apple, paused, his cold, unmoving eyes deepening slightly.
It was a fleeting moment.
Evadne gazed at Hans, a glimmer of light in her eyes, as if stars were gathering in the depths.
Hubery... it's you, isn't it?
My Hubery, who disliked the ocean but loved apples more than anything... it's you, right?
"What brings you here?" Avery, sensing Evadne's intense emotional turmoil towards the man, stared at him with a frosty, unwelcoming look.
"Just passing through."
Hans shifted his gaze from Evadne's pale face and swept it over the beautiful rosary, "The view might be nice, but it feels utterly bland."
Avery's eyelids twitched, "What do you mean?"
"Clearly, Ms. Evadne doesn't want to marry you. So, all these roses, to me, are just unripe melons."
Hans finished his apple and tossed the core into the rose bushes, "Not sweet at all."
Avery's eyes seethed with anger, his fists clenched tight:
"Mr. Hans usually adheres strictly to the rules Sir has set, not speaking out of turn. What's got you so talkative today?"
Hans smiled, a rare occurrence that made his grin seem stiff:
"Normally, that's the case, but I can't help but speak up when I see someone I dislike."
Evadne blinked gently, her heartbeat racing.
Although Hubery wasn't as blunt and cold as him, he was also straightforward and sincere. In that respect, they were similar.
Avery's face darkened further, a cold laugh escaping him, "No matter how much you disdain it, there's nothing you can do. Evadne and I will get married, and she will become my wife."
Hans replied, "I doubt that."
At his words, Evadne's eyes sparkled, her heart swelling with hope. However, the next moment, Hans's cold words doused her excitement: "Who knows, Sir might have a chance too."
Avery felt a tight squeeze in his heart, a wave of unease washing over him.
He wasn't afraid of Thaddeus or Evadne's brothers coming after him, but Sir terrified him!
He knew all too well what Sir was capable of, and until now, there was nothing Sir wanted that he hadn't obtained.
What do you think?
