Chapter 2536
A pile of firewood had been set up in the center of the village square. A boy and a girl, both roughly six years old, were tied to wooden pillars. The two children cried continuously, "Mom!"
"I don't want to die, Mom! I don't want to die!" they yelled.
"My child!" both the mothers yelled.
"Mom!" the children yelled.
Two women rushed forward, and they were crying out in sorrow. One of them with disheveled hair lunged at a man who was holding a torch. She yelled angrily, "Stetson Wilde, you heartless scoundrel! Why are you harming our children? He's only six years old! You animal!"
Stetson was a muscular man. He pushed the woman to the ground, and a few women hurriedly helped her up. They knelt on the ground and said, "Madam, it hasn't rained for three years. We'll all starve to death if this goes on. Stetson doesn't want to do this, but he's the head of the village, so he has no choice."
"Madam, this is for all of us. Please just go along with Stetson for once."
"Argh!" screamed the woman who was speaking.
The woman screamed tragically before she could finish her sentence. She was bitten on the right arm while she was speaking, and she soon bled.
A few men tried to pull them apart, but the mom bit down hard, so they could not be separated. Everyone turned to look at Stetson at that moment. Stetson had bloodshot eyes. He ignored the crying children and said angrily, "This is the will of God! The children must be sacrificed in order for Stream Village to rain. Ignore her and burn them!"
Stetson threw the torch onto the pile of firewood. Flames erupted and roared. Moments later, the hay surrounding the wooden pillars was ignited.
The mom and another woman screamed. They rushed towards the fire in a crazed state. Stetson and the woman next to him looked at each other and smirked. Stetson did not intend to stop the mom from running towards the fire and said, "Let her be, there's no need to stop her."
Wilbur could not stand it anymore. He recited a spell, and a gust of wind immediately pushed the two women back by several meters. A white dragon emerged from the fire, circling the wooden pillars and cutting the ropes binding them. Then, the dragon allowed the two children to ride on its back, carrying them into the sky and eventually landing safely.
The white dragon then soared to the sky. The mothers rushed over to hug their children.
"My child!" they both yelled.
"Mom!" yelled the children.
...
What suddenly happened stunned all the villagers. Wilbur stepped forward at that moment and said, "The white dragon has descended and saved these two kids. This proves that sacrificing the boy and girl for rain is not what the Dragon Lord wants. So, I think we should reconsider carefully when it comes to asking for rain."
"Um..."
"Yeah, the white dragon saved the children. It must be the work of the Dragon Lord! It looks like we can't sacrifice the children. We were wrong."noveldrama
