Living With My Lady Boss

"I've not seen you around here before. You're from out of town, aren't you? Well, you don't know what you're messing with! Come on, I'll let you go wherever you want to go after the Night Demon's gone. For now, you're coming with me to my house."

The middle-aged man walked up to Wilbur, trying to drag him along when Wilbur frowned at him and said, "It's really fine, sir."

"Yeah, sure. You're coming with me."

Wilbur had no choice but to follow the man back to the village, entering his house to take cover. Just as they had stepped into the yard, a dark storm came rolling over. Fierce winds ripped through the air, forcing the man several steps backward.

"Are you alright, sir?"noveldrama

"I'm fine! Let's get inside!"

The man yanked Wilbur into his house, slamming the door shut. He peered through the cracks in his door, heaving a sigh of relief before turning to look at Wilbur. "Don't be afraid. We're all used to these winds. They come with the Night Demon every time. The Night Demon won't step onto the shore. It just eats all the fish in our boats. Don't you worry. We'll be safe once it's gone."

Wilbur stared at the man. "Sir, wouldn't that mean that all the fish you put all that hard work into catching would have gone to waste?"

The man let out a sigh. "I could care less about the fish. Those Night Demons would eat people, you know. Sometimes life's just tough like that. Do you happen to have something bothering you, young man?"

"W-What?" Wilbur scrambled to shake his head. "No, of course not, sir! There's nothing bothering me."

The man chuckled. "Well, you sure look miserable. I just thought you'd run into something in your life that's been getting you down."

The man patted Wilbur on the shoulder. "I wouldn't care too much about some things if I don't have to, young man. The thing about life is that it keeps moving on no matter what you're going through. It'll all pass, you know? We need to learn to see the brighter side of things."

"Yeah. Thanks, sir." Wilbur nodded.

Just then, a series of screams rang from outside. The two men peered through the cracks in the door and saw that a black tornado had made its way over and destroyed several houses. The families living in them were swept along into the air.

The man's jaw dropped open in terror at the sight. "H-How could this be? The Night Demon has never come into the village. Is he going to destroy everything today?"

Wilbur saw the people swept into the tornado sobbing and screaming for their lives. He quickly put his hand on the door to head out by instinct. Yet the man stopped him at once, saying, "What are you doing, young man? You can't go out there now, it's far too dangerous."

"I'm a cultivator, sir. Let me go out there and help."

"What? You're a cultivator?" The man frowned at Wilbur.

"Yes," Wilbur confirmed with a nod, then walked right out of the house. He muttered a spell in the man's yard, casting a cloning spell that caused two clones to split out of his body.
