Nora

Chapter 169

Chapter 169:

Caleb smiled and shook his head. “I don’t.”

Nora let out an “oh.” She wasn’t feeling particularly upset.

A puzzled Caleb asked, “Don’t you want to know?”.

Nora replied nonchalantly, “I don’t care.”

She really didn’t care.

Having grown up in such a family since she was a child, kinship was not indispensable to her.

For her, the greatest value her mother had was that she had given birth to her, and had also left her a lot of material with which she could study and learn.

Her father…

That word had been associated with Henry since she was a child. Although he was no longer her father, she didn’t feel much affection for the word.

Nora put the recorder in her pocket. Then she looked at Caleb and said, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Caleb sighed and said, “Back then, your mother asked us to take care of you. You can tell this all happened because the Grays were neglectful.”

Caleb also had a look of approval and appreciation on his countenance as he spoke of Yvette.noveldrama

As they were talking, Ford suddenly approached. His expression was as stern as ever, as if he had never smiled or laughed. He interrupted their conversation and said, “Miss Smith, Mr. Gray. We need you both to give statements for investigative purposes.”

Statements?

Nora was taken aback.

Caleb couldn’t help but ask either, “It’s just trespassing on private property-why do we have to give statements for it?”

Ford looked firm and determined, his facial features chiseled and defined. He spoke politely but with an air of command, as if he were someone who had held high office for a long time. He said, “Please come with us.”

Nora sensed he was not someone to be trifled with.

She nodded her head.

Caleb didn’t refuse either. So, they asked the two of them to go to the police station together. They were also assigned different rooms.

Nora sat nonchalantly in the dark room. Her big-boss demeanor made the policemen look at each other.

Most people would be trembling with fear in the police station, but why did that woman look like she was at a tourist attraction?

Besides, was it really necessary to bring them back to take their statements for something as trivial as trespassing on private property? However, they did not dare to say it out loud and could only cast furtive glances at Ford.

The man’s identity was not simple – the whole police station had to obey his orders!

Nora looked around curiously.

“What are you looking at, Miss Smith?” asked Ford.

“In your dark little room here. It really avoids all light. I can probably sleep very well in here.”

“…”

Although Nora slept a lot, the quality of her sleep had always been rather poor. Because of this, Cherry never dared to disturb her when she slept.

There was no light at all in the interrogation room, which surprisingly made it an ideal place to sleep.

Ford was silent for a while before asking, “Have you heard from your mother, Miss Smith?”

Nora’s eyebrows rose slightly at the question.

Suddenly, she asked, “Are you a special operations officer?”

Ford was taken aback, but did not speak.

Nora’s fingers tapped lightly on the chair. She said, “All the other police officers act according to their will, so you probably have a very high rank. However, it’s not very appropriate for such a high-ranking officer to deal with trespassing disputes. So, you’ve come to my house about this?”

Ford’s jaw tightened. Shortly thereafter, he stood up.

He unconsciously straightened his back as he rose. His posture was tall and straight, and his whole being seemed as sharp as a razor. It was as if there was nothing that could stand in his way.

His voice was deep and firm. He said, “My name is Morris Ford.”

“…Hello, Captain Ford.”

Morris said, “We are investigating a case from over twenty years ago. The case is related to your mother, so I would like to know more about her through you. Please cooperate with us, Miss Smith.”

Nora’s eyes twinkled a little.

It was just what she had thought!

Her mother had suddenly abandoned the Andersons around that time. She’d broken up with Ian Smith, gone to California alone, and hadn’t contacted her family since. There must be a reason for all that!

She asked, “May I ask what kind of case this is about?”

Morris shook his head. “I’m sorry, but this is a Class S case, you are not authorized to know anything about it.”

“…”

Nora was silent for a while. Finally, she said, “I don’t know anything at all.”

Her mother had left her many things, but there was nothing among them that defied the bounds of the law, except the Imperial League….

Morris scrutinized her, apparently trying to judge whether what she had just said was true or false.

The man had an extremely sharp gaze. No one could lie while he was staring at him. However, the young woman in front of him was calm, and her almond-shaped eyes were so clear that one could see their depth. Instead, it made one unable to read her thoughts.

For the first time, Morris could not see the truth of something and someone.

After thinking for a while, he said, “In that case, please sign the statement, Miss Smith. Then you may leave.”

After saying that, he went next door.

Caleb was in the next room.

After signing the statement, Nora left the police station. After waiting outside for a while, Caleb finally came out. There was some hesitation in his countenance as he said, “That man is very strange. He keeps asking about Aunt Yvette, but unfortunately I was only three or four years old at the time. How was I to know anything about her…”.

Nora’s eyes flickered a little as she heard what he said.

At that moment, Caleb’s cell phone suddenly rang. He smiled at Nora and took the call. Instantly, his expression darkened and a cold glint shone in his dark eyes. He said, “I’ll be right there.”

After hanging up, he looked at Nora and said, “I have something to do, so I’ll go first, Miss Smith.”

Nora nodded.

At the same time.

At the hospital.

Joel Smith rushed over when he heard the nurse. She was panting heavily. When he entered the room, he saw that his uncle, who was usually in a bad mood and looked half dead all the time, was sitting there looking somewhat anxious at the moment.

Joel asked, “What’s the matter, Uncle Ian?”

After a long silence, Ian finally said, “Joel, that must be my daughter.”

Joel was taken aback. “Who?”

Ian’s hand trembled slightly as he answered, “Nora Smith.”

He had watched the entire live broadcast.

So he knew that Yvette’s company in California at the time was called Idealian Pharmaceuticals.

Ideals… Dreams… And Ian…

Ian…

Was it because Yvette had missed him too that she was also dreaming about him?

An agitated Ian held Joel’s hand and said, “Go investigate her! Investigate all of Nora’s past. If possible, get us a DNA test.”

Joel grabbed his hand and said, “Calm down, Uncle Ian. I’ll have her investigated right away.”

Ian nodded.

Then Joel suddenly said, “I can investigate her background, Uncle Ian, but you must promise me that you will continue to live properly. Only if you are alive will you be able to know the answers to your questions.”

When he heard that, Ian’s originally dull eyes glowed again.

In the Woods.

Miranda and Rachel had watched the entire live broadcast and had seen the plot twist at the end.

Miranda pounded the table angrily. “Henry Smith is useless!”

Rachel also curved her lips in distaste and said, “We spent all that money and got them Roxanne to no avail…. Although, luckily, we’ve already paid her to keep quiet, so she won’t expose us.”

However, as soon as he said that, the door suddenly opened.
