Nora

Chapter 44

Chapter 44:.

Justin had a look of bewilderment in his deep-set eyes. Why was he asking about his son instead after approaching him?

Without any change in his expression, he replied nonchalantly, “He’s back first. Is something wrong?”

The operation had taken six hours and it was already one o’clock in the morning. Pete had originally planned to stick it out, but after all he was still young and couldn’t take it.

So Justin had sent someone to take him home first.

‘Is he gone?’

Nora immediately lost interest. She withdrew her gaze and returned to her lazy posture. “No, it’s nothing, why are you still here?”

Justin slowly straightened up and looked at her intently. The beauty mark in his eye looked a little more bewitching in the light and his voice was low and seductive as he replied, “I’m waiting for you.”

“…”

It was late in the evening. Moonlight shone through the windows in the quiet hallway. The man was now a little close to her after straightening his back, making the atmosphere seem somewhat amorous.

In that instant, Nora came to form the misconception that the man was flirting with her.

She shook her head slightly to rid herself of the distracting thoughts. Then she laughed softly and said, “It’s understandable that the patient’s family is worried about her. Don’t worry, Mrs. Hunt will be fine.”

He pulled out his cell phone and checked his text messages. “The Andersons have sent someone to pick me up. I’ll go first.”

The woman turned around cleanly after saying that. When she walked, it was as if she was lazy to even lift her legs. The way she walked was definitely not graceful; in fact, she even felt a bit lazy. However, she wasn’t slow and her view from behind was intriguing.

Justin, who was a step behind, followed her.

He did not doubt the abilities of the person he had encountered. He was confident that he had done a good job.

Besides, he had waited here precisely because he intended to send her personally to the Andersons’ home.

But, unexpectedly, just after turning the corner, he saw the woman with her cell phone in her hand and making a call. Her voice was a little low as she said, “Investigate Justin for me.”

Justin was puzzled.

He stopped in his tracks. At that moment there was actually some puzzlement and bewilderment in his usually cold and hard countenance.

After so many years of immersion in the world of commerce, he could almost see through everyone’s thoughts. However, that woman was the only person who seemed to be covered by a magical veil. Her form was vague and enchanting, he could not see through her at all.

For example, wasn’t she a bit too fickle? She had been cold and indifferent towards him, both the night before and now, and yet she was having someone investigate him a moment later?

He didn’t go after her again, and neither did Nora notice the man behind her. After another lap, she continued and said a second line, “I want all the information about your son.”

On the other end of the call, Solo’s mind was full of questions. “Why are you looking for his son, I see, you want to be his stepmom, don’t you? I told you Justin is someone handsome first class, didn’t I? Surely you can’t control yourself anymore after seeing him, can you? Tell me, is he especially handsome?”

The light in Nora’s eyes flickered.

Was he handsome?

The way he had looked on the couch the night before, when he was obviously drugged and still very restrained, was indeed quite seductive.

She replied dispassionately, “He’s passable.”

He just whistled and said, “Tsk, in all the years I’ve known you, there are only a few that you consider passable. I think you two have a chance! What do you think…?”

Nora interrupted him and said, “I expect to see the information in my mailbox when I wake up.”

Solo replied, “…. Okay.”

After hanging up, she climbed into the car the Andersons had sent to pick her up. Not in the mood to admire the New York night scenery, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep in a daze.

“Miss Smith? Miss Smith?”

When a groggy Nora opened her eyes, she discovered that she had already arrived at the Andersons’ house. The car had stopped on the porch and the small three-story villa was brightly lit. It was evident that its occupants were still awake.

Nora yawned and looked at the time as she got out of the car, then checked that it was already two o’clock in the morning.

The Anderson Villa was decorated in a simple European style. As soon as she entered, she was greeted by a simple and refreshing aura.

Four people were sitting on the sofa. An elderly woman in her late 80s sat in the center. The years had left their marks of vicissitude on her face and her eyes looked straight ahead blankly. She asked, “Is he here, why do I hear the car?”

Melissa, who was sitting to the left, smiled softly and said, “It’s here!”.

Elderly Mrs. Anderson immediately stood up, excited. She stretched her arm forward and clung to her as she shouted, “Nora? You’re Nora, aren’t you, you look just like your mother?”

A young woman sat down to her right. She looked to be in her early twenties and looked a little like Melissa, and there was a certain grace in her large eyes. She held onto Elder Mrs. Anderson’s arm and said, “Grandma, Nora is the spitting image of her mother. She looks just like her.”

Melissa laughed and said, “You say that like you’ve met your aunt before.”

At the time, when the Andersons’ oldest daughter had run away from home, Melissa had not yet married Simon. Even after the wedding, she saw more pictures of Nora’s mother than her actual person.

Sheril Anderson stuck her tongue out at him and replied, “Even though I didn’t know her, we are connected by blood. I felt a sense of kinship with Nora as soon as I saw her.”

“Meh, what a sycophant.” The young man sitting across from the three of them was probably a college student. His handsome face was full of wantonness and incontinence.

Sheril ignored him and instead stepped forward. Then, she gently drew Nora toward Mrs. Anderson and placed her hand on the older woman’s hand.

Nora was a little surprised.

She had grown up with the Smiths. As a child, she had always been ridiculed for being obese. Also, because of her poor health, she didn’t go out much and stayed in her room all the time.

At first she would go downstairs to eat all three times a day, but later Wendy got someone to bring her food upstairs, so she no longer had to leave her room to eat.

As a child, she was a lonely person. I used to envy how happy the family of three seemed. Whenever I saw Angela clinging to Henry and cajoling him, I also expected love from her family.noveldrama

But the way Henry looked at her with disgust every time made Nora gradually lose that desire.

Thus, she focused on other aspects, such as hacking, medicine, martial arts, and so on.

Therefore, she was rarely so intimate with people.

However, the unpleasantness he had imagined did not come. The old woman’s hands were a bit soft due to her loose skin, but the dry warmth of her palms seemed to penetrate the aloof disguise she had put on.

“Nora…”

The old woman was so excited that her hands were shaking. “You’ve had such a hard time all these years!”

“…”

Seeing that Nora didn’t know what to do, Melissa said, “Mom, Nora is back. It’s already two a.m. Why don’t we go to bed first? We can talk tomorrow instead.”

“Okay, okay…” Elder Mrs. Anderson wiped away her tears and said, “Nora, you must be tired too. Go to bed for now.”

Melissa had Sheril carry the old lady to her bedroom while Nora followed her upstairs. Melissa said, “We’ve kept your mother’s room intact all these years. Now that you’re back, you can occupy her room. Cherry is already asleep.”

“Okay.”

“By the way, Nora, I didn’t tell anyone that Mr. Hunt asked you to go to the hospital to operate on his grandmother. I was afraid they would worry.”

Nora didn’t want to reveal her identity either. She just wanted to stay here quietly for a few days. Once Elder Mrs. Hunt woke up, she would go back to California to get her son.

She nodded her head.

Since she was too tired, she didn’t even glance around the room and went straight to bed.

The next morning, as soon as she woke up, she saw Melissa in a panic outside her door. She said to her, “Nora, something has gone wrong at the hospital!”.
