Chapter 427
Usually, when Brad was drunk, he'd be quiet and docile. He would never yell or make a fuss. He'd just go home, crash on his bed, and pass out. However, even after drinking the peppermint tea, he was nothing like his usual self that night, raving and spouting all sorts of nonsense.
One minute, he was threatening to cripple Tyler; the next, he was ranting about bankrupting the Sullivan family. Then, he went on about getting Nadine fired from Harborview Hospital, forcing her to stay home with Sean. He even said he would drag Nadine home to give her a beating.
Brad complained that she was becoming more unreasonable by the day and that her sweet and gentle demeanor was just an act. He even claimed she had no conscience. Even though Sean wasn't his biological son, he never made a fuss about it, yet she still had the nerve to act out like this.
Now, the whole country knew that Nadine was going to divorce and leave him. Did she not care about his reputation? Was he supposed to just take this humiliation lying down?
His constant wailing was driving Sammy and Alex up the walls. When the clock struck 11:30 pm and he was still at it, they had no choice but to call the person he wouldn't shut up about.
Nadine had already put Sean to bed. She'd taken a shower and was now in bed with her eyes closed, waiting for sleep to take over. Her phone, which had been set to vibrate, kept buzzing until it slid off the pillow, landing right next to her ear. Nadine noticed the screen light up with an unknown number and hesitated for a moment before answering it. "Hello? How can I help you?"
She was a well-mannered woman, so even at an hour like this, her voice remained gentle, without a trace of impatience. She had never seen this number before, so she instinctively assumed it was a call from a patient in the hospital. Soon, she heard a loud commotion on the other end of the line. Then, she heard Brad's voice. "Get your ass over here, Nadine! Right this instant!"
There was a lot of background noise on the other end of the line, as if he was in a bar. Nevertheless, she could still hear Brad clearly.
"Screw you, Brad! Who do you think you are? I'm not wasting my time on you. Go crawl into the furthest corner of the earth and stay there! Now, beat it!" she spat before hanging up and muting it.
Lying back on the pillow with her arms behind her head, she was seething. If not for the fact that they were separated by a phone line, she would've stormed over and knocked some sense into him.
She murmured, "Seriously, what kind of scumbag behaves like this?"
When she tried so hard to make
their marriage work, he was always distant and emotionally unavailable. Now that she was too exhausted to keep this relationship going, she was ready to hand him over to his betoved Jean. Was that so wrong? noveldrama
Why on earth was he so hell-bent on preventing the divorce? It made no damn sense! Perhaps, deep down Brad had some kind of masochistic streak. After racking her brain, that was the only explanation she could come up with for that asshole's erratic behavior.
The room was pitch black, so any sliver of light stood out like a beacon. Her phone, which had been set to silent, was flashing. Nadine picked it up and saw Sammy's name on the screen. After taking a deep breath, she decided to answer it.
Nadine had always had a good impression of Sammy. When Brad had just undergone his heart transplant, Sammy and Alex often came to the hospital to visit him.
When they saw her, who was pregnant yet still caring for Brad, they stepped in to lend a hand whenever they could.
What do you think?
