Secrets Of The Neglected Wife

Chapter 491

Chapter 491:

What on earth was so important that it required a café meeting? Was it about romance? Love, perhaps?noveldrama

Either way, the thought twisted like a knife in his chest, tightening as though his heart were caught in an iron vice.

Seeing the tension building, Gordon’s expression sharpened, and his eyes glinted with a smirk. “Well, Mr. Lloyd, you did meet Miss Perry at a café, didn’t you? So it seems there’s no reason for anyone to be shocked that Allison and I might do the same.”

Gordon tilted his head, his gaze flicking to Carole before he sighed mockingly. “Too bad she doesn’t hold a candle to Allison. She’s coarse, to put it politely. Surprising, isn’t it, Mr. Lloyd? That this is your taste?”

From the start, Gordon had no intention of playing nice. The moment he saw Carole purposefully blocking his path, he’d marked her as trouble.

And her incessant jabs at Allison only made his distaste for her deepen.

He chuckled arrogantly and added, “Truly, some people are rotten beneath the skin.”

Carole, who had been trying to fade into the background, could no longer keep quiet.

Yes, Gordon was the mayor’s son, but she couldn’t let him insult her in front of Kellan. “Mr. Herbert, I won’t claim to match Ms. Clarke’s beauty, and you’re welcome to critique me all you like. But Kellan? That’s where I draw the line.”

Her words were careful, standing up for Kellan with a hint of dignity.

After all, this was her chance to win his favor, regardless of what it might cost her to go against the Herbert family. “You’re going too far!”

But Kellan remained as impassive as ever, while Gordon only sneered.

“And what gives you the right to address me like that?” Gordon’s gaze swept over Carole, looking at her as if she were beneath notice, his smile venomous. “Tsk! Hideous, truly hideous.”

“You…!”

Carole’s face turned beet red with fury. She prided herself on her beauty; no one had dared to insult her so brazenly before.

Yet, she had to swallow her anger, as Gordon’s status made him untouchable.

Most frustrating of all, Kellan didn’t move to defend her.

“Ms. Clarke, aren’t you going to intervene?” Carole’s voice turned pleading, her gaze fixed on Allison with a hurt expression. “You seem close with Mr. Herbert. Surely, he’d listen if you asked him to stop…”

She chose her words carefully, aiming to redirect the conflict back onto Allison. And, of course, they were meant for Kellan to hear.

She wanted Kellan to hear that there was clearly something suspicious between Allison and Gordon!

But Allison simply gave a cool smile. “Funny you should mention connections, Miss Perry. From what I understand, you and Mr. Lloyd are much closer. Didn’t you say his grandmother owes quite a debt to your family?”
