Talented Heiress: A Rose With Thorns

Chapter 840

Jacob returned Wilson the same look of disdain he received from him. Never mind that Wilson was constantly taking up all of Yvette's time. Now, he even wanted to compete with them in preparing a surprise for her birthday!

For a moment, the atmosphere in the office became tense as Wilson and Jacob eyed each other, both finding the other unpleasant company.

"Yvie is our precious younger sister, so we'll be the ones to take care of planning her birthday surprise. You can just go about your own business," said Jacob after a while.

Wilson's eyes darkened, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop enough to make one shiver. He had already made the biggest compromise possible by allowing them to work on Yvette's birthday surprise alongside him!

He replied, "I'm Yvie's fiancé, so this is within my duties."

Jacob frowned in dissatisfaction, asking, "Do you absolutely have to fight us on this?"

"That should be my line, Jacob."

The atmosphere in the office once again grew tense.

Just then, Yvette pushed open the door to the office and strode in. "What are you two talking about, Jacob?"

The instant they saw her, the hostility between Wilson and Jacob vanished, and they suddenly acted like two best buddies.

Wilson answered warmly, "Nothing much. We're just chatting over casual things."

Since they were planning a surprise, they naturally couldn't let her find out about it

now.

Jacob nodded along quickly, saying, "That's right! We were just chatting!"

Yvette didn't question them further upon seeing their odd behavior. Instead, she got down to business.

"I've successfully developed an antidote for the hypnotizing fragrance," she announced.

Because the hypnotizing fragrance could control people's consciousness, others had used it for evil many years ago, which led to it being banned from appearing in the market and being used.

Yvette had spent longer than usual to develop an antidote precisely because it was far too rare an item.

Joy flashed in Wilson's eyes at her words, but then he took in her appearance, which seemed thinner than before.

Distressed, he reached out to touch her face. "It's been hard on you, my dear fiancée."

Yvette shook her head, smiling faintly at him as she replied, "I'm fine. Grandma's health is more important here!"

How could she be so kind...

Wilson gazed gently at her, slender fingers rubbing lightly at her face in a

wordless expression of his deep love and also distress.

Jacob looked on at the scene unhappily. Although he had accepted Wilson as his brother-in-law, he still felt the urge to cut off Wilson's grabby paws when he saw the other man laying his hands on Yvette.

Yvette's eyes flashed dangerously when she thought of Martha's current condition, and she declared coldly, "It's now time to settle the score."

Victoria had been living comfortably these few days. She felt like she was the center of the universe, with everyone fawning over her and listening to her every whim.

She basically regarded herself as the lady of the Quinn household now and was flaunting her power and status within the manor.

She surveyed the white roses in the garden and frowned in displeasure. "Why are there only white roses in the garden?" she questioned.

"About that..."

Jimmy hesitated for a moment before explaining honestly, "It's because Ms. Murray loves white roses, so Mrs. Quinn Senior

previously had me remove a net

the

other flowers and plant only white roses in the garden."

It was that bitch Yvette again!

Victoria's expression instantly turned sullen, and she said coldly, "Well, I don't like white roses, so get rid of them all! Swap them all out for red roses instead!"

Jimmy responded instantly, "Alright, I'll see to it immediately, Ms. Olson!"

Victoria had lost the mood to continue walking, so she turned, ready to leave. However, she unintentionally overheard two maids whispering in a corner.

"Don't you find it strange? Mrs.

Quinn Senior suddenly started

acting weirdly. She used to really like

Ms. Murray, even calling her 'Yvie' all

the time. But all of a sudden she dislikes her!"

"That's right! I've long wanted to point out the same thing, but I just didn't dare

because Ms. Olson is the one in charge here now!"

"Same here! And I feel that Mrs.

Quinn Senioris behaving really bizarrely. When I went to serve herza meal today, her eyes looked glazed over, and her reactions were slow. It was like she was a puppet controlled by strings!"

"I know! Although Mrs. Quinn Senior is getting along in years, she's always been really energetic. And yet she's become like this now... Say, do you think Ms. Olson did something..."

Before the maid, Lauriane, could finish speaking, Victoria grabbed her from the corner she was in and gave her a backhanded slap.

"Ah!"

She yelped in pain, but Victoria had absolutely no intention of letting her off and slapped her again.

"How dare you accuse me of poisoning Mrs. Quinn Senior! Who gave you the guts to do so?"

"Ms. Olson..."

Victoria had always been a kind and gentle lady in the eyes of the household staff, so they were shocked to see her current harsh demeanor. They looked on at the scene disbelievingly.noveldrama

"If I ever hear such nonsense again, no matter who it is, I will absolutely not let them off easily!"

Her eyes were incredibly cold, a complete reversal from her previous kind and gentle air.

She would definitely be the future lady of the Quinn household, and the manor

was also now completely under her control. She obviously no longer had to put on an act!
