Chapter 1460
"Really? Are you sure you actually succeeded?" Mirabella's cool voice suddenly filled the entire break room.
Upon hearing her voice, Santos's gaze sharpened, and he swiftly turned around.
He saw that Mirabella had already stood up, her dark coat making her appear incredibly stern, and her eyes bright and clear, showing no signs of confusion, hardly what one would expect from someone who had been injected with a strong sedative.
"You... you're awake?" Santos could hardly believe his eyes.
Fearing an accident, he had made sure to inject her with another dose of the medication.
Yet looking at her now, Santos's mind raced, a sudden thought striking him, "No, you've never been under the effect of my drugs from the start, you let yourself be taken away on purpose!"
The plan within a plan, all to find Morgan.
No wonder it had been almost too easy to capture her at the time.
Santos's expression darkened.
Mirabella flicked off some dust from the edge of her coat, her demeanor lazy and unconcerned, "It seems you're not too dull to misunderstand reality."
Meanwhile, Paul, who had been wallowing in guilt, turned his head upon hearing Mirabella's voice. When he saw the familiar spark in her eyes, his eyes suddenly moistened.
Though they were reunited in such circumstances, it was a relief to know she was still alive.
Santos, seeing Mirabella approach, tensed instinctively, aware of the danger.
He had not expected her to wake up, so he hadn't had her restrained.
Knowing Mirabella's capabilities, he quickly reached out and grabbed Paul by the neck without Paul noticing.
Immediately, Paul coughed a few times from the pain and difficulty breathing. Santos didn't lessen his grip, his eyes coldly fixed on Mirabella, "Take one more step, and I can't guarantee whether he lives or dies."
Mirabella heard this but didn't stop, her approach casual and unthreatened.
Santos's brow furrowed, but he didn't show any sign of panic. He had a hostage, and his people were all outside; he wasn't afraid of what this woman could do.
However, just as this thought
crossed his mind, the hand gripping Paul's neck suddenly weakened and released, and he couldn't muster any strength in his body.
Santos's expression shifted, as he slumped powerless beside the bed. Being quite knowledgeable aboutnoveldrama
drugs, he knew this had to be thet
work of some medication, but he
couldn't for the life of him figure out which one, given his resistance built up over years of exposure.
Confused, Santos managed to glance at Mirabella, his usual calm replaced by gritted teeth, "What did you use?"
Mirabella approached, not even sparing him a glance, and checked Paul's pulse.
His pulse was weak, but not critically so.
Mirabella breathed a sigh of relief, then took out a set of silver needles she carried with her, and after- inserting them into several points on Paul's head, she asked, "Do you feel better now?"
Paul nodded, "Much better, my head doesn't feel as foggy anymore."
Mirabella hummed softly in response, not saying much more, and helped Paul up from the bed.
But as Paul's gaze swept over Santos, he suddenly withdrew his hand, "You better leave now."
What do you think?
