The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance

Chapter 915

Stella's heart sank. She hurriedly asked, "What happened?"

Could this really be Leonard's doing?

But it had only been a few days-had Haynes run into trouble already?

Haynes had always been wary of Leonard. He was cautious by nature. There was no way he would fall into a trap so easily.

Benson spoke, his tone somber. "It's like this: Mr. O'Brien's sister, Miss Callie O'Brien, was cornered this morning and called Mr. O'Brien for help. When he went to rescue her, he was ambushed by hired killers. He's gravely injured at the moment."

Benson let out a weary sigh.

"The attackers must've been waiting there for a long time, just for Mr. O'Brien to show up. Callie was only the bait-their real target was him."

Still, it didn't add up. For Haynes to end up this badly hurt-it felt almost impossible.

Benson continued, "Before Mr. O'Brien lost consciousness, he managed to say one thing to me. That's actually why I'm calling you, Ms. Cameron-to pass on his message."

Stella's grip tightened around the phone, her knuckles turning white. "What did he say?"

Benson's voice was grave. "He said there's a traitor close to him."

Stella froze. Against her will, a face flashed through her mind-Foreman Richards.

All this time, Foreman had helped her get messages out, saved her from more than one scheme by Rachel and Jasper Wilkinson. Those two had suffered quite a few losses because of him.

And when trouble hit the Wilkinson Group, Foreman was the first to step up and help.

He clearly valued friendship—he wouldn't betray Haynes, let alone put him in mortal danger.

Benson's voice broke her thoughts. "Ms. Cameron, Mr. O'Brien left instructions if something were to happen to him, or if he never woke up again, Keen's guardianship would fall to you. He made a will. Altof his assets go to you. The O'Brien Group shares will also be transferred to your name, to provide for Keen's future."

It was no different from a last will and testament.noveldrama

Stella's voice trembled. "How is Haynes now? Is he... is he going to..."

"Mr. O'Brien is in a coma from his injuries, but his life isn't in danger at the moment. You don't need to worry, Ms. Cameron. I'm only telling you all this just in case, so you're prepared."

Haynes had left ninety percent of his estate to Stella.

Deanna O'Brien would go ballistic once she found out.

If something really did happen to Haynes, Stella couldn't afford to be caught off guard. If she was still in shock, someone could easily take advantage of her-and that would be disastrous.

At Benson's reassurance, Stella let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.

But she quickly added, "Haynes and I are no longer married. There's no reason

for him to leave his estate to me. It should all go to Keen."

Benson replied calmly, “Ms.

Cameron, the young master is only five. With that much wealth attached

to him, he'll be a target—and he

wouldn't be able to protect it, anyway. If Deanna finds out Haynes left everything to Keen, she'll never let him leave the O'Brien family. You're Keen's mother. Giving it to you is the same as giving it to him. Mr. O'Brien said no one in this world would love the young master more than you do.”

Unexpectedly, Stella felt her eyes grow hot.

A rush of emotions flooded her chest.

She didn't argue again. "Alright. I understand."

She knew Haynes was right.

For a child as young as Keen, that kind of inheritance would only bring disaster.
