Chapter 665 What If We Use Force Again
Lynette held back her tears and looked directly at her father, Maverick, the once- authoritative village head.
"Father, the three of us have agreed. If you want money, we'll give it to you. But it comes with one condition-we cut ties completely.
"We don't even want to argue anymore about how you treat your children differently. We only know one thing-demanding 30,000 dollars from Natalie and even asking her to find wives for your sons is completely unreasonable."
Lynette gritted her teeth and spoke slowly and clearly. "Your own daughter wants to go to school, and you expect someone else to pay for it?"
"Natalie owes us nothing. Why should she be threatened by you? We are daughters of Ashford Vale. We had no choice in our birth, but if we did, we'd never have chosen to be born here. And we'd never choose to be the daughters of parents like you, who only value sons."
She wiped her eyes. But no matter how hard she tried, the tears still slipped out.
"We didn't get a say in any of this. You brought us into the world and raised us. Now, you want 10,000 dollars for each of our futures? Fine. We'll give it to you. Consider it repayment for everything you've done. But the rest-including getting brides for your sons-that's not our responsibility.
"That's your duty as parents, not ours as daughters. We're all your children, so why should the son get to suck the life out of the daughter?
"Father, Ms. Natalie is here to witness this, as are all the teachers. The three of us are saying this clearly. Take the money and sign the severance agreement. From now on, we are no longer your daughters."
"In your dreams!" Maverick slammed the table again, trembling with rage. "Well done, Lynette Zanders. If I'd known you'd end up like this, I never would've let you go to school.
"Learn a few words, and now you think you're smarter than your father? You're dragging Sue and Ann into this too? What a fine daughter I raised! 10,000 dollars to buy your way out of the family? Never.
"You were born of and raised by me. If I say you stay in Ashford Vale, then you die in Ashford Vale. Sons bring pride to the family and take care of us when we're old. Daughters are just money pits.
"You think you can compare to your brothers?noveldrama
"I'm your father. If I say you're to marry for the family's benefit, you do as told. If you resist, I'll beat you to death."
Natalie and Connie were used to hearing this. Taylor and his team had long become numb from rage.
But Zachary, Sophia, Zane, Marcus, and Elijah were stunned silent.
They couldn't believe that in this day and age, such parents and such backward thinking still existed.
After finishing with Lynette, Maverick turned his angry gaze to Natalie and the others.
"Natalie, it's because of you that the girls of Ashford Vale have become disobedient. What are you going to do about that?"
Natalie sat calmly in her chair, expressionless. "I'm not going to do anything. I think Lynette is absolutely right.
"Why should girls be sacrificed for the boys in the family? Why are boys treated as human, and girls as lessers?
"Maverick, when we first came here and brought supplies, we made a deal with you."
"Bullshit," Maverick cursed loudly. "You outsiders came here and stole our girls from us. Now, you want to run the place? We won't allow it.
"If you still want the girls of Ashford Vale to go to school, then pay up. One girl, 10,000 dollars. And help our sons find wives. Otherwise, get out, and leave behind one million dollars before you go."
His demands were nothing short of outrageous. The earlier demand of 10,000 dollars per girl was already a sky-high figure in this area.
Now, asking for a million dollars shocked even the villagers. Sue and Ann's parents spoke up timidly.
"Maverick, Sue isn't worth that much."
"Neither is Ann. We agreed on 10,000 dollars, and even that's already a lot."
"Shut up!" Maverick roared, his face red as he glared at Natalie. He knew she was the leader of the group and that everyone listened to her.
"Natalie, if you agree, hand over the money now. And find a woman to marry my son."
He pointed at Sophia. "She looks good. Let her marry my son. She'll stay and carry on the Zanders family name."
Before Natalie could reply, Zachary stood and grabbed Maverick's pointing finger. With a sickening crack, he snapped it cleanly.
Zachary's expression was ice-cold
His voice chilled the room. "Your son? Not even close. You disgusting old bastard, you're the one who deserves to die."
แท้ง
"Assault! Murder!" Maverick screamed. "Everyone, attack them! Kill the men, keep the women-for our sons to marry!"
Natalie raised her weapon and aimed it at Maverick's forehead. Her voice rang
out with icy authority. "Maverick Zanders, I suggest you calm down."
Seeing her aim the weapon at him, Maverick quickly waved at the villagers to stand down.
Then, Margus stepped forward, and
without warning, delivered a bruta kick to Maverick's chest. He flo
through the air, landed hard, and coughed up blood.
Marcus' eyes were dark with rage, his expression cruel, voice low and venomous. "You people are courting death.
"Elijah. Beat him."
"Roger that." Elijah charged forward, grabbed Maverick, and began punching him relentlessly.
Some villagers tried to step in, but Natalie, Taylor, and Connie all raised their weapons and aimed at the approaching villagers.
They knew how powerful these weapons were. They had felt them before.
The strategy here was to take down the leader first. Once Maverick was out, the rest would be no threat.
Maverick spit out more blood with each blow.
Elijah finally yanked him up and hurled him at the villagers.
"Anyone else want to try? Step up and take your beating."
Elijah's tall, muscular frame exuded raw intimidation as he roared at them.
Natalie stepped forward at this moment. Her face was blank, her voice sharp as a knife. "I assume that you all remember how we stayed here the first time.
"If you're going to follow Maverick's lead, then I have no problems with using force again."
"Ms. Natalie, we agree to let Ann go to school. We agree!" Ann's parents, the first to crack under the pressure, gave in immediately.
"We never really wanted the money. Maverick said that once Ann went off to school, she'd never come back. We'd have raised her for nothing, so we needed something in return. That's why we asked for 10,000 dollars."
"Ms. Natalie, we don't want money for Sue either," her parents added. "We only said that because Maverick told us to. We didn't actually mean it."
Sue and Ann exchanged a glance, then nodded.
"Mom, Dad. Even if you don't want the money, we're still going to give it to you. We're not changing the terms. A sum of 10,000 dollars, and we cut ties."
"You two damned girls! We're not taking the money. What's the point of cutting ties, then?"
What do you think?
