too late for a second chance novel (Lila and Dorian)

Chapter 526

Jamie shook her head. "Not really. He went to university when I was 13 years old,

and graduated with a PhD this year. He's already signed a contract to become a

professor at the National Science Academy.

"That's why my mom is coming back to discuss the engagement with his family."

Lila did a quick mental calculation. Completing a Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in

just seven years—this guy was impressive!

Thinking about Teddy who resembled a happy puppy, she couldn't blame Jamie's

mom. If she had a daughter, she'd also want her to pick an accomplished

scientist.

Lila thought for a moment. "Well, how do you feel about it? Plus, you two have

been apart for seven or eight years. Has your childhood fiancé not dated anyone

during that time?"

Jamie shook her head. "He's been busy with research. He didn't have time to

date."

"So, you two have been keeping in touch?"

"Yes, but not often because he's so busy. When we do talk, it's just casual small

talk."

Lila nodded. "Do you like him?"

Seeing Jamie stay silent, Lila could guess her answer. Having a childhood

sweetheart in a foreign country—it was hard to tell if her feelings for him were love

or kinship.

She asked again, "What about Teddy? Do you like him?"

Jamie pursed her lips, hesitating for a moment. "I'm not sure. I've never met

someone like Teddy before. He's optimistic and kind, and even though he comes

from an ordinary background, he's always content and happy. He's like..."

She thought for a moment then continued, "Like the sun."

His presence was comforting, and it made her want to be around him.

Lila glanced up at the bright blue sky. It seemed Jamie had to choose between

her childhood sweetheart or perfect match.

She reached out and pinched Jamie's cheek. "So, this is why you haven't been

eating properly lately?"

Jamie didn't respond. She had been overthinking everything, and it caused her to

lose her appetite.

"Ms. Hart, do you think I'm a bad person? I keep going back and forth, unable to

make up my mind."

"You're not going back and forth. You're just thinking things through carefully.

Jamie, you're still young, and marriage is a big deal. It's only right to take your

time."

Lila smiled, then added, "Take your

time to think about it, but don't let it

turn into anxiety. We love you, and

no matter who you choose, we'll

support you. I'm sure your mom andnoveldrama

Vince think the same."

Her gentle tone and warm smile soothed Jamie's restless heart.

"I understand, Ms. Hart. I'll think carefully about it. I have to head back to the set

now. I have two scenes this morning."

Lila nodded and sent her off. When she turned around, she spotted Amelia hiding

behind a pillar, staring at her. This made Lila gasp in shock.

Before she could say anything, Amelia jumped out and scrutinized her. "You have

a thing for scholars?"

Lila laughed. "Not at all."

"Then why didn't you speak up for Teddy?" Amelia stroked her chin, looking at Lila

suspiciously.

For someone who always protected her own, it was strange that she didn't speak

up for Teddy.

Lila could tell what Amelia was

thinking. She chuckled and said, I

do look out for my people, but Jamie

and Teddy are both my people. I

can't push Jamie into a decision just

for Teddy's sake."

Amelia looked puzzled. "I can't believe a childhood sweetheart suddenly popped

out of nowhere. Teddy's future wife is slipping away! We have to do something."

"That's enough." Lila pulled her arm

away from Amelia's grasp. "Feelings

are something outsiders can't

meddle in. It's just like how things

between you and Vince are a mess."

Amelia almost choked. "Our situation is complicated! Fine, I won't interfere with

Jamie, but I can at least warn Teddy to step up his game, right?"

After sending Teddy a message, she turned back to Lila. "By the way, I heard the

Moore family came looking for you?"
