Chapter 940
Chapter 940:
As evening turned to night, Hadley watched Eric sleeping peacefully in the hospital bed.
“For Joy’s sake, I hope you find the strength to wake up soon,” she whispered.noveldrama
When morning light arrived, the door to the hospital room creaked open.
Hadley, drowsy from a night on the couch, was stirred by the sound of voices.
The caregiver greeted the newcomer with a warm smile. “Miss Harris, good to see you this morning.”
“Yes,” Linda answered, looking around. “Is Hadley not here? She was supposed to be with Eric.”
“Miss Pearson is still asleep on the sofa over there.” Linda glanced in her direction.
Awakened by the commotion, Hadley stood up, sweeping her hair back with a swift motion of her hand and securing it with a hairband from her wrist. She then moved toward the bathroom, barely acknowledging Linda.
“Hadley, we need to talk.” Linda’s voice was calm but firm, catching her attention.
Hadley stopped and turned slightly, intrigued by what Linda might say next.
Linda seemed to wrestle with her thoughts, her expression tense as she searched for the right words. After a pause, she asked, “How do you feel about Eric? Are there still feelings there? What will happen when he recovers?”
The question caught Hadley off guard.
Raising one eyebrow, Hadley let out a gentle chuckle. “Haven’t I mentioned it? Eric and I are no longer together.”
“Is that so?” Linda’s skepticism was evident.
“Doubtful?” Hadley responded, still smiling. “There’s not much I can do about that. Maybe you should ask Eric when he wakes up.”

“Miss Pearson,” the caregiver appeared at the doorway. “Your breakfast has arrived.”
“Thank you. I’ll be there shortly,” Hadley responded, preparing to freshen up. “Just need to wash up first.”
“Understood.” The caregiver then turned to Linda. “Miss Harris, would you like some breakfast as well?”
“No, thank you.” Linda declined, her voice shaky. Her thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions.
At that moment, it became clear to Linda that Hadley was likely telling the truth—she and Eric really were no longer an item. That was a relief. It seemed Hadley no longer harbored feelings for Eric. Despite Eric’s condition, Hadley was able to maintain her usual routine, sleeping and eating without apparent distress.
Linda’s hands tightened into fists, her pulse quickening with a mix of relief and unresolved tension.
Meanwhile, on the hospital bed, Eric’s expression shifted, his lips murmuring faintly. “Hadley, Hadley… Hadley!”
Eric shot upright, as though he had been yanked out of a nightmare. Cold sweat clung to his skin, soaking his brow and dripping from his temples.
“Eric?” Linda’s voice broke the silence, her eyes widening as she stared at him in stunned disbelief.
She stood alone in the secluded confines of the hospital room. The nurse had just finished her checks and left, while Hadley and the caregiver were presumably in the outer room, enjoying a light breakfast.
“Eric, is that really you?” Linda rushed to his side, her face lighting up as she saw his eyes wide open.
