Chapter 788
Chapter 788:
When Armand walked in after finishing cooking, he saw Theresa teasing the fish as soon as he opened the door. He noticed her smile, which he hadn’t seen in a long time.
He wondered when he had last seen her smile.
It seemed like ages ago.
He wasn’t about to break the awkward silence, so he leaned against the door and watched her silently.
After a while, when Theresa saw him, he approached.
Theresa asked, “How did you find this place?”
Armand replied, “There are a lot of house-hunting apps these days. If I’m willing to pay, I can find a good apartment.”
Theresa understood. Although it was a small apartment, not as big as her house, it was quieter. Plus, she felt very comfortable when she stayed here. When she was at home, she even had to be careful about speaking, for fear of angering Elizabeth.
If she continued to stay at home, Theresa feared she would soon suffer from depression.
She got up from the hanging chair. Because she had been sitting there for so long, her right leg went numb. She almost lost her balance and fell to the floor. Armand acted quickly and held her up.
Theresa looked up and found that he was looking at her. He whispered, “Are you okay?”.
She shook her head and said, “I’m fine. My leg just went numb after sitting for so long.”
Armand picked her up and carried her in his arms. Theresa resisted. He held her tighter. “Hold still. Let me hold you for a while. It’s been a long time.”
He looked at her and continued, “You’ve lost a lot of weight.”
Theresa gently curved her lips into a smile. “Am I thin?”
“Of course.”
Armand sat her in the chair next to the table, where there were three light dishes: sautéed green vegetables, stewed eggs and tofu with shrimp, and the seaweed soup.
Theresa glanced at the dishes on the table in disbelief. “Have you cooked them all?”
Armand said, “I didn’t lie to you. I’ll cook for you every day from now on, how can I fool you?”
Picking up a spoon, he scooped out some tofu and put it in his bowl. He said, “I used to cook for myself. After that, I stopped.”
He was the only man who could cook between Boyce, Matthew and himself.noveldrama
Theresa took the spoon and tasted the tofu. It wasn’t as delicious as the dishes cooked by the restaurant chefs.
However, for her, right now she could only eat such light dishes. In the last month, her mouth was filled with bitterness.
Armand said, “Let’s go out after we eat.”
Theresa asked, “Where are we going?”
“To my law firm,” Armand replied. “In the last few weeks, you were always at home or in the hospital. It’s time to meet others. Take it as a method of relaxation.”
Theresa thought for a moment. Even if she didn’t go out with him, she would stay home and sleep. She’d rather go out for some fresh air. So, she agreed and said, “Okay.”
After lunch, Armand washed the dishes. Then he found her an outfit.
Theresa said, “I like what I’m wearing now.”
She checked her clothes and saw that they were fine.
Armand took a new dress out of the closet and asked her to put it on.
He wanted her to be delighted this way.
Theresa took the dress and said, “Will I be delighted after I put on a new dress?”
Armand said, “At least you need a change.”
Theresa agreed. She put on the new dress and walked out in it. They walked hand in hand out of the unfamiliar community. Probably because they were in a strange place as they walked, they couldn’t help but take a look around.
It was a large community. The apartment buildings were fairly far apart from each other. There were reasonable green areas within the community, and there were also security guards at the entrance.
Armand reached out and let Theresa take his arm.
Theresa refused and said, “We’re not dating now. Stop doing it.”
“Why can’t we be dating?” asked Armand, forcibly grabbing her hand to take his arm.
She said, “This community is near my law firm. Let’s walk there.” Theresa agreed.
It was a cool day today, so they walked slowly. As they passed the silver birch trees along the road, they saw leaves and leafy branches. Occasionally, a gust of wind blew through the leaves, making them rustle.
Soon after, they entered the buffet. As soon as they entered, they heard someone crying. Armand tensed slightly and stopped immediately.
Theresa wondered what had happened to him.
Armand was all ears as he listened to the crying.
Theresa gently nudged him and asked, “What are you doing?”
Armand was afraid Elizabeth would come and make a fuss after not finding him.
She had already done such things at home. He imagined that his grandmother might come to make a scene and complain about him despite his public image.
He almost went crazy for Elizabeth, fearing she was crying.
After listening to the voice carefully, he didn’t think it was his grandmother.
The woman’s voice was younger than Elizabeth’s.
She patted Theresa’s hand and said, “Nothing. Let’s go in.”
Theresa gave him a look, wondering why he was so nervous at that moment.
When they walked in, they saw a middle-aged woman crying hoarsely in the reception room.
A lawyer was standing next to her, giving her a helpless look. She could not talk to the woman at all, as she only came in crying. She couldn’t tell him the details. How could he help her?
Armand asked the receptionist, “What’s going on here?”.
“Mr. Bernie, this lady has been here for a long time. She says she wants a lawyer to help her daughter. After Anderson came, she was still crying without speaking. That’s why Anderson could only stay here and pass her the handkerchief.”
As he spoke, he also let out a sigh, wondering what exactly had happened to make this woman cry so miserably.
Armand walked over and asked Anderson to go back to his work. He could take care of this middle-aged woman.
Instead of asking the woman what had happened, he waited for her to calm down. He realized that she was too excited. If she couldn’t calm down, how was she going to tell him why she had come looking for a lawyer?
Armand asked Theresa calmly, “Are you thirsty?”
Theresa felt very sorry for the woman. She asked, “Aren’t you going to ask him what happened?”
Armand didn’t answer her. He went to pour two glasses of water, one for Theresa and one for the woman.
He asked, “Theresa, would you like to wait for me in my office?”
Theresa shook her head. She still wanted to listen to the woman, wondering why she was crying so much.
The woman checked to see that Anderson had left the room, but she didn’t know who the man and woman in front of her were. She asked, “Who are you?”
Armand helped Theresa sit on the couch and said, “I’m one of the lawyers here. You can tell me why you came here. If you haven’t thought about it, you can go home and think it over. Then you can decide if you still want to come here or not.”
