Unhinged Omega: A Dark Reverse Harem Omegaverse Romance (Ghost Alpha Unit Book 4)

Unhinged Omega: Chapter 19

I lean out of the tank hatch, scanning the chaos unfolding before me. There’s Raven, that golden-haired idiot, stumbling toward me like a newborn colt. His usual grace is gone, replaced by a clumsy gait that sets alarm bells ringing in my head.

Shit.

Something’s wrong.

Did that fucking dick use his bark on Raven?

‘Get your ass in the tank!’ I bellow, my voice barely carrying over the din of screams and explosions.

Raven hesitates, his blue eyes wide. ‘You’re here to help, right?’ he calls back, a note of desperation in his voice that makes my chest tighten.

But not enough.

‘I’m here to save your ass,’ I growl, already regretting every life choice that led me to this moment. Not that I regret coming to save Raven. I regret that this bullshit quest ever started in the first place.

But Raven shakes his head and cups his hands around his mouth, that familiar stubborn set to his jaw even though he looks like he’s about to topple over. ‘No! I need you to help me save my omega!’ he calls back to me.

Before I can respond, a sneering remark cuts through the air. ‘At least someone brought something useful.’

The devil himself.

Just the sight of him makes my blood boil.

‘Betty isn’t for you, asshole,’ I snarl, ducking back into the tank.

I need a new angle. A way to grab Raven before he gets himself killed chasing this omega fantasy of his. I hang out the side of the tank, arm outstretched, as I slam Betty’s throttle forward with my other hand. The ground trembles beneath her treads as we barrel toward the madness.

But Raven, the slippery bastard, takes off running.

Toward the tower.

Toward certain fucking death.

‘Goddammit!’ I roar, pushing Betty to her limits as I give chase.

Some kind of gigantic eight-to-ten-foot-tall hulking giant of an alpha that looks like something out of a horror movie is making a beeline for the tower too. His massive frame moves with terrifying speed despite his size and stomping gait.

A metal fucking arm?

An iron mask with glowing blue eyes?

What the fuck is this thing?

The choppy white hair is distinctly Vrissian. Must be an escaped experiment from one of their labs. Never thought I’d see one in person. If they’re capable of making alphas like this for their armies, that’s a problem.

And pretty fucked up.

‘Where the fuck is Lex?’ Nikolai’s bellow carries over the chaos.

I catch a glimpse of the butch alpha sprinting for the tower, that mangy mutt of hers yapping at her heels and snapping instinctively at her leather trench coat. Nikolai’s face contorts with rage. He snarls a stream of Vrissian curses and takes off after them.

And now Raven’s running alongside Nikolai.

Never thought I’d see that, either.

But I can see it in both their faces. A shared desperation. They’re both trying to stop the monstrous alpha from reaching the tower.

From reaching whoever’s inside.

I’m close now, so close. I lean further out of the tank, fingers straining. ‘Raven!’ I yell. ‘Grab my fucking hand!’

He doesn’t even look back. ‘Make me!’ he shouts, voice raw with defiance.

For a split second, I consider it. Consider using my alpha bark to force him to safety. But the memory of his glazed eyes and his limp form stops me cold, however tempting it is to use that to save him.

I won’t do that to him.

So I push Betty harder, gaining ground.

The monstrous alpha reaches the tower first. His massive metal claws tear into the base of the tower like it’s made of paper, ripping holes big enough for a man to step through. I catch a glimpse of Lex diving into an elevator and a moment later, she starts ascending. I can see her through the glass as she ascends with her dog beside her. The dog’s barking down at the monster with every breath, like that’s gonna help.

Raven skids to a stop not far from the monster. His gun is in his hand before I can blink, and he fires.

The sound of the shot is lost in the cacophony, but the effect is immediate. The monster’s head snaps around, blue eyes glowing behind the iron mask locking onto Raven. A snarl rips from the huge alpha’s throat, the sound more animal than human.

No. No no no.

I don’t think. I just act.

I grab the stick that controls Betty’s turret and the main gun swivels, lining up the shot in a heartbeat.

I fire.

The blast is deafening. It catches the monster square in the back, blowing off the metal rods sticking out of him. Judging by the bleeding gashes in his back, those were the last, but not the only ones. Half his mask was blown off, too, revealing more of his mangled face. Scars and sharp teeth are all I see before a shower of glass and twisted metal rains down from the tower.

‘You moron! My omega is up there!’ Nikolai roars at me, fury etched into every line of his face.

His omega?

The same omega Raven is after?

Of course it’s the same goddamn omega.

The universe fucking hates me.

‘Cool,’ I snarl back, already lining up another shot. ‘And my boy is down here.’

I’m about to fire again when a blur of golden hair fills my vision. The boy in question. Raven launches himself into the tank, colliding with me in a tangle of limbs. His fist connects with my jaw, snapping my head back.

‘What the fuck, Raven?’ I growl, grappling with him as Betty rocks beneath us.

He’s fighting me like a wild thing, all sharp blows and desperate strength. ‘Stop!’ he yells in my face as I squeeze his wrist hard enough to make the bones creak. For a moment, I think he’s going to punch me in the face again, but instead, he socks me in the gut.

I wheeze, the air rushing out of my lungs, but it’s not enough to stop me. I may not be as agile as he is, but I’ve got size and strength on my side. I grab his other arm, twisting both of them behind his back as I spin him around. In one fluid motion, I slam him face down across the control panel.

Raven writhes against me with a snarl I’ve never heard from him before, all animal rage and desperation. But I manage to pin him under my bulk, using my weight to keep him trapped. His lean body is no match for my broader frame as I press down on him.

‘Let me go, you fucking brute!’ he snarls, bucking beneath me.

‘Not until you calm the fuck down,’ I growl in his ear.

He tries to headbutt me, but I see it coming. I grab a fistful of that golden hair, wrenching his head back. He gives a sharp gasp of pain in the millisecond it takes him to twist and sink his teeth into my forearm.

‘Son of a fucking bitch!’ I roar, shoving my arm further into his mouth until I feel his jaw pop. He has no choice but to stop biting me, and the moment he does, I shove him back down onto the control panel and bear my full weight down on him, crushing him against the buttons and levers. Every time he squirms and arches beneath me, I press down harder until his breath comes in ragged gasps, hot against my arm where he bit me.

‘What the fuck was that?’ I snap at him.

But before he can answer me, a deafening screech of metal fills the compartment. Like nails on a chalkboard amplified a thousandfold. I risk a glance up and my blood runs cold.

The monster’s massive metal claws are tearing through Betty’s armor like she’s made of tinfoil.

Shit.

Shit.

Shit!

I’ve spent years restoring this tank, pouring my blood, sweat, and tears into every inch of her. And now this overgrown science experiment is ripping her apart like a goddamn can opener.

Raven thrashes beneath me, still trying to break free. I fucking hate that his ass is grinding against my dick. And I can’t risk getting him into a less intimate hold without snapping his fucking neck.

‘Let me go!’ he yells, his voice muffled against the control panel as I press his cheek into the buttons that control the radio. ‘I can stop him!’

‘The hell you can!’ I shift my weight to keep him pinned beneath my bulk as I grab Betty’s throttle with the hand that isn’t pinning Raven down by the back of his neck like I’m scruffing a rabid feral cat.

Another screech of metal and sunlight floods the interior of the tank, drowning out the guitar solo now blasting from the speakers, courtesy of Raven’s face mashing the buttons. I look up to see the monster staring down at us through the newly created hole, his glowing blue eyes burning with feral rage behind what’s left of the iron mask. It’s clear he’s human, however fucked up he is.

You and me both, motherfucker.

I don’t know why I’m feeling a pang of sympathy for this thing. Maybe because if he is from one of those Vrissian labs, his life’s been hell, and there isn’t just rage in that icy stare.

There’s pain, too.

Agony, even.

‘Don’t do this,’ I grit out through my teeth, my gaze locking with the huge alpha’s as he looms over us. ‘I don’t want to have to blow your fuckin’ head off.’

‘I do,’ Raven hisses beneath me, his hips jutting up like he’s trying to crush my balls with his ass.

The alpha roars in response.

‘Shit,’ I grit out, slamming the throttle forward. Betty lurches into motion. The sudden movement throws the huge alpha off balance. The claws on his metal hand scrape along Betty’s hull as we start to pull away, the sound setting my teeth on edge.

But he’s not giving up that easily. I hear the heavy thud of his iron boots as he starts to run after us. Holy fuck, I didn’t even know he could run, as big and unwieldy as he is.

‘You’re going the wrong way!’ Raven shouts, twisting his head to glare at me with a furious blue eye. ‘The tower’s back there!’

‘In case you hadn’t noticed,’ I growl, ducking as another swipe of those metal claws comes dangerously close to taking my head off, ‘we’ve got bigger problems right now.’

Raven bucks against me again, and this time he manages to get one arm free. He immediately starts clawing at my face, his nails raking across my cheek.

‘Goddammit, Raven!’ I roar, grabbing his wrist and slamming it back down onto the control panel, crushing my entire upper body against his back and shoulders even though it means grinding my dick harder against his ass. ‘I’m trying to save your life, you ungrateful little shit!’

‘I don’t want you to save my life!’ he snarls back. ‘I want you to help me save her!’

The raw desperation in his voice catches me off guard. So does the fact he isn’t making stupid remarks about our compromising position. I’ve never heard him sound like this before.

Not even when…

Nope. I’m not going there.

Another violent shake nearly sends us both flying. The alpha’s relentless assault is taking its toll on Betty. I can hear her engine sputtering, feel the way she’s starting to list to one side. My heart aches for my beautiful war machine, but I push the feeling aside. I need to focus on getting us out of this alive.

Getting Raven out of this alive.

‘Maybe if you’d gone with something speedier—’ Raven starts, but I cut him off by grabbing a fistful of his golden hair and pressing his face harder against the radio buttons as he snarls in rage. It just makes the music louder, the squealing guitar lancing through my aching head. But not so loud I don’t have to listen to the alpha disemboweling my pride and joy.

‘Are you fucking criticizing your rescue vehicle?’ I snap, still struggling with Betty’s throttle as Raven continues trying to squirm out from under me. ‘You know what? Next time I’ll just leave your ass to die. How’s that sound?’

Raven has the audacity to look offended. ‘I’m a Leo-Virgo cusp! I can’t help being critical!’

‘I thought you were just a fucking Leo?’

Now he looks touched. ‘You remembered?’

‘You never shut up about it!’

Another blow rocks the tank. A massive scythe-like claw punches through the wall, inches from my face. I roll, pulling Raven with me, and I end up flat on my back in the dirt with Raven clutched to my chest as the roaring alpha continues tearing Betty apart like he thinks we’re still inside. Or it’s because his iron claws are stuck in the now flaming engine compartment.noveldrama

Fan-fucking-tastic.

Now there’s no rescue vehicle.

The air explodes from my lungs as Raven’s elbow connects with my solar plexus. My arms go slack and he slips free, scrambling to his feet before I can recover. By the time I suck in a ragged breath, he’s already sprinting toward the tower.

‘Fuck!’ I bellow, struggling to my feet.

My legs are shaky, muscles protesting after being crammed in that tin can of a tank. But I force them to move, to chase after that golden-haired idiot before he gets himself killed.

Slippery little shit. He’s always been faster than me. But desperation lends me speed, and I’m slowly gaining ground. The tower looms ahead, impossibly tall. A monument to Nikolai’s ego.

I can see the holes the monster tore in the base. They gape like open wounds, jagged metal and shattered concrete spilling out onto the tarmac. Raven’s heading straight for one of them.

‘Raven!’ I roar. ‘Stop, you fucking moron!’

He doesn’t even look back. Just keeps running, golden hair streaming behind him like a banner. Like he thinks he’s some kind of hero in one of those stupid stories he’s always going on about.

But this isn’t a fairy tale. There’s no happily ever after waiting for him in that tower. Just death, if he’s lucky.

And if he’s not…

I push myself harder, ignoring the burning in my lungs. I’m not built for this kind of sprint. Give me a good brawl any day over this track and field bullshit. But I’ll be damned if I let him get away from me now.

Not when I came all this way to save his scrawny ass.
