Unhinged Omega: A Dark Reverse Harem Omegaverse Romance (Ghost Alpha Unit Book 4)

Unhinged Omega: Chapter 34

I slam my fist against the steering wheel of my armored SUV in frustration as I scan the endless expanse of dead trees stretching out before me. I’ve been driving in circles for hours, but so far I’ve found jack shit.

No silver-haired omega.

No giant mutant alpha.

If I hadn’t seen her myself, I’d think Raven was hallucinating her.

Just miles of nothing but radiation-twisted vegetation and the occasional pack of feral dogs and drunken raiders picking through the ruins of the old world.

The engine growls as I push the SUV harder, tires crunching over the uneven terrain. The suspension groans in protest as I hit another pothole, but I ignore it.

‘Where the fuck are you?’ I mutter, scanning the horizon.

My fucked up sense of smell isn’t helping matters.

Most alphas can track by scent for miles. But thanks to Nikolai’s little ‘gift’ and my own modifications afterward, I can barely smell anything stronger than rotting meat or fresh blood. Usually an advantage in my line of work.

Right now, though? It’s a fucking liability.

I slow the vehicle as something catches my eye. Deep gouges in the earth, like massive claw marks from a beast that stumbled and fell. Too big to be from any normal predator. My hands tighten on the steering wheel as I follow the tracks with my gaze.

They lead toward the river.

‘Gotcha,’ I growl, throwing the SUV into gear.

The tracks are fresh, maybe a few hours old at most. They weave through the trees, sometimes accompanied by smaller footprints that could belong to an omega. Are they… traveling together? My heart rate picks up despite myself.

If I can find her…noveldrama

If I can bring her back…

Maybe Raven will forgive me.

Maybe things can go back to normal.

Whatever the fuck ‘normal’ means for us.

I follow the trail until it opens into a small clearing. And there, scattered across the blood-soaked ground, are three mangled corpses. What’s left of them, anyway.

‘Well, shit.’

I climb out of the SUV, boots crunching on frost-covered leaves as I approach the carnage. The bodies have been torn apart. Limbs scattered across the frozen earth. The work of that mutated alpha, no doubt.

Raiders, judging by their leather getups. Or what’s left of them. Good riddance. But some of their clothes are missing. Someone’s been scavenging.

Smart girl.

A glint of metal catches my eye. I reach down and pick up a small piece of what looks like iron plating. Similar to what I saw grafted onto that monster’s body back at the airfield. Must have broken off during the fight.

‘The fuck did they do to you?’ I mutter, turning the metal over in my hands.

The craftsmanship is impressive, I’ll give them that. The way the metal has been fused with organic material, designed to interface with flesh and bone… it’s beyond anything I’ve seen before. Even the Council’s best tech isn’t this advanced.

I pocket the piece of plating. Might be useful later.

If not, it can join my collection.

Standing, I survey the scene again. The tracks lead north, through a river. Hope the omega didn’t drink any of that shit. Raven would be disappointed if I brought her home with multiple arms and eyes.

Then again, he’s always been a freak, so maybe not.

I climb back into the SUV, a grim smile tugging at my lips. Finally, a solid lead. If that’s the direction they’re headed, they must be going toward the black market. Makes sense. It’s all that remains of civilization for miles.

She may be resourceful, but she’s still on foot in hostile territory. All territory out here is hostile toward omegas, really. Her best chance of survival is blending in somewhere more densely packed.

I just hope I find them before someone else does.

Or before that mutated alpha gets hungry.
