A Divorce He Regrets

Chapter 251

Chapter 251:

Alex stared at me now, unblinking, his jaw locked so tight I thought he might break his teeth.

For a long, painful moment, we stood there, neither of us speaking.

Then, without a word, Vanessa turned and walked out of the room.

And that was when it hit me—she was leaving.

I had been so caught up in my own anger, in my argument with Alex, that I hadn’t even noticed her slipping away.

By the time it fully sank in, she was gone. My head was pounding too hard to even chase after her.

A sharp, throbbing pain pulsated against my skull, each beat growing in intensity until I thought I might collapse under it. My body was on fire—heat rising under my skin, my hands clammy, my throat dry. My chest rose and fell with uneven breaths as the weight of everything pressed down on me like a boulder I couldn’t move. Through the haze, Alex’s voice cut in. “You need to rest.”

I barely heard him. My mind was spinning too fast, my stomach twisting with sickening dread.noveldrama

“No,” I croaked, shaking my head. “Has there been any—”

A shrill ring sliced through the tension, cutting me off mid-sentence.

I froze.

So did Alex.

It was Dominic’s phone, vibrating against the table where he had carelessly tossed it earlier.

Dominic, lost in his drunken stupor, barely flinched. His head remained down, his fingers gripping the arms of his chair as if he needed to hold onto something tangible, something that would keep him from falling apart.

Alex threw me a look before snatching up the phone. The screen lit up softly, an unknown number flashing on it.

My breath caught.

“Who is it?” My voice was hoarse.

Alex didn’t respond immediately. His jaw clenched as he turned the screen toward me, letting me see for myself.

Unknown.

A chill swept down my spine.

Neither of us moved for a moment. Then, with a sharp inhale, Alex swiped to answer and put the call on speaker.

The moment the line connected, a voice slithered through.

“Well, well,” the voice drawled, slow and mocking. “From the sound of it, that must be Alex.”

My stomach twisted violently.

Nathan.

I gripped the edge of the table to keep myself steady, my knees threatening to buckle beneath me.

Alex’s face hardened. “Where’s Faith?” he bit out, his voice like steel.

Nathan let out a low laugh. “Not even a hello? Manners, Alex. Where’s pretty boy? Is he too drunk to come to the phone?”

Alex’s hand tightened around the phone. “If you want someone to talk to, you talk to me.” His voice was controlled, but I could almost hear the fury seething beneath it. “Now tell me—where the hell is Faith?”

Nathan let out a dramatic-sounding sigh. “I really don’t like your tone, Alex.”
