A Divorce He Regrets

Chapter 256

Chapter 256:

There was a beat of silence before he responded, his tone cautious. “I managed to track the vehicle for a while, but…”

I didn’t like where this was going. My jaw clenched. “But what?”

“It was left in an alley,” he admitted. “And… burned out. Completely burned out. No prints, no evidence left behind. Whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing.”

I closed my eyes, pulling in a breath through my nose, trying to hold on to my anger.

Of course, Nathan would clean his tracks. He wasn’t sloppy. Never had been.

I blew out a sharp breath and rubbed a hand through my hair. “You’re telling me there’s nothing?”

“Not yet. But I’m still looking. There might be traffic cams near the area where it was dumped. It’s going to take some time to get access to that footage, but I’ll see what I can do.”

“Work faster,” I snapped. “We don’t have time.”

“I understand, sir.”

I hung up without another word, my teeth clenched as I shoved the phone back in my pocket.

Shit.

I turned and made my way back downstairs. The weight of exhaustion dragged at me, but I shook it off as I entered the living room. Dominic was sprawled on the couch, his arm flung over his face, his chest rising and falling in steady, deep breaths. He was out cold.

I paused for a moment, my frustration clashing with a reluctant sense of relief. He’d drunk himself into unconsciousness, but at least that meant he was finally getting some rest. He certainly wasn’t thinking straight in this state, and right now, we needed clear heads. I sighed, shaking my head. “At least you’ll be sober when you wake up,” I muttered under my breath.

Now the exhaustion hit me hard. The weight of everything—the dead ends, Raina breaking down, and Faith still missing—settled deep in my bones.

I rubbed a hand over my face and sank into the opposite couch. Just for a little while, I told myself. Just long enough to clear my head.

I let my body relax into the cushions, my eyes sliding shut.

Morning came too quickly.

A sharp jolt of panic hit me before I was even fully awake. I sat up abruptly, my thoughts immediately going to Raina.

I had to check on her.

I pushed off the couch, rubbing my stiff neck as I made my way upstairs. I knocked lightly on her door.

“Raina?”

No answer.

I knocked again, then pushed the door open. The bed was empty.

My stomach tightened.

Maybe she was in the bathroom.noveldrama

I went to the door and knocked. “Raina?” Still nothing.

I pushed it open, finding the bathroom empty as well.

The uneasy feeling in my chest bloomed into full-blown panic.

Where the hell was she?

I spun around and rushed downstairs, my pulse pounding in my ears. “Raina!”

Dominic groaned from the couch, shifting under the blanket. “What the hell?” he muttered, his voice hoarse from sleep. I didn’t stop. “Raina!”
