Chapter 266
Chapter 266:
My body stiffened. Ice spread through my veins.noveldrama
“No,” I snapped. “You’ll never get her.”
Nathan’s smirk deepened, his eyes gleaming with something dark and satisfied. “You don’t know, do you?”
My pulse roared in my ears. “Know what?”
He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper, almost as if he wanted to savor my reaction. “Raina’s already back home.”
The air was sucked from my lungs. I went still.
Who the hell called Raina back home?
Nathan’s eyes did not leave mine, and an unnerving calm fell over his face, as if he were working out some sort of puzzle that made sense only to him. Then, in a voice oozing quiet amusement, he asked, “Do you really know Raina at all?”
My nails dug into my palms. I lifted my chin, refusing to let him see how much his words unsettled me. “Alex won’t let it happen,” I said firmly. “Neither will Dom. They won’t give her up.”
Nathan exhaled, shaking his head like I was a child who just didn’t get it. “That’s where you’re wrong,” he murmured. “You’ve lived with her for years, and yet, you still don’t see it, do you?” He took a slow step closer, his gaze sharp, dissecting. “Raina will come to me on her own. To save you,” he continued, his lips curling into something almost smug. “She always throws herself into the fire for the people she loves. And I’m counting on that.”
A sharp pang of fear shot through me. Because deep down, I knew he was right. Raina didn’t hesitate when it came to protecting the people she loved. If she thought she could trade herself for my safety, she would. And that terrified me. My vision blurred as panic set in, my chest tightening with the realization of just how easily he could lure her in. She wouldn’t wait for Dom or Alex to come up with a plan. She wouldn’t listen to reason. If she thought she could end this by offering herself up, she would walk right into his hands.
Tears pricked at my eyes, but I wouldn’t let them fall. I clenched my jaw and turned from him, but Nathan had already seen enough. His smirk deepened. Satisfied, he turned and walked out, leaving me with my thoughts.
The hours ticked by painfully, each second a slow, torturous reminder of my complete powerlessness over what was going on outside these walls. I curled up on the bed, wrists still bound, my body aching from being in the same position for too long. I forced myself to think of some way out, but every idea ended the same way—badly. I had to try, though. Because if I sat here and did nothing, Raina would come.

As the evening drew in, the air inside the room grew thick, stifling in its stagnant stillness. I had begun to doze off when suddenly, the door swung open, its loud bang bringing me bolt upright. My pulse spiked as Nathan stormed inside, his usually calm demeanor now completely gone. His face twisted in rage, his dark eyes flashing with frustration as he stalked toward me.
“What the fuck is taking him so long?” he spat.
My throat went dry.
“Did he not get the fucking message?” Nathan was pacing now, his hands working themselves open and closed at his sides. “Does he need me to kill you first before he actually responds?” His voice was hard and sharp, like the edge of a blade piercing through the air.
Fear crawled up my spine, but I forced myself to remain still, to keep my breathing even. It was exactly what he wanted: to shake me, make me crumble.
Nathan let out a harsh, humorless laugh and shook his head. “Maybe I overestimated your importance. Maybe Dom doesn’t give a shit about you after all.”
I didn’t take the bait. Dom cared. He cared too much. And Raina—Raina cared about everyone but herself. That was the real problem.
