Chapter 310
Chapter 310:
“Of course not! What did he take me for?” I scowled at him this time before averting my gaze to meet Raina’s.
“Which is why he…” I pointed at the family lawyer, who was seated like a chicken that had been hosed down with water. “…is here. I had a thought. Nathan is hell-bent on making you his because of the estate, right?” Raina was on the edge of the couch now, her attention glued to me. “Why don’t we distribute it? That way, he won’t get shit even if he pulls something off again…”
It took a few heartbeats before she spoke, letting what I had just said sink in. “You mean…”
“Yes, Raina. I didn’t agree to you two getting a divorce, but what if we make it look like one? He might insist on the divorce happening before he helps—whatever the hell that is—but we can be steps ahead of him this time.”
I drew in a deep breath from how much I had been speaking. Alex got to his feet and began pacing the living room.
“I don’t like this. I don’t like any of this shit…” He stopped for a moment and turned to face me. “That bastard has always been two steps ahead of us, Dom. What makes you think he hasn’t already seen this move?”
That was a valid question. Knowing Nathan, he must have thought about every possible outcome. But we couldn’t afford to sit still and do nothing.
“Because, Alex, we’re transferring the assets to you…” I announced. It was an absurd idea, but it was the only move I was certain Nathan hadn’t seen in his game.
“Fuck no…” He wanted to argue.
“Yes. Think about it. Look, it doesn’t have to be under your name if you’re afraid of that. We can put it under Sullivan Corporation instead, then stage a fake divorce. If he wants a wedding, we can fake that too. We have to beat this fucker this time…”
“Dom, I have a child on the way, in case you’ve forgotten…” Raina cut in. She was in my face in a matter of seconds like I had just ruined her life.
Fucking shit.

How had that slipped my mind?
I was sure the look on my face gave it away because she utterly refused this suggestion, and I understood clearly why.
“I am not getting a divorce, Dom, and that’s final. You already know how hard it was for me to agree to it in the first place.”
“It’s a fake divorce, Raina. I promise you, none of it will be real. And Alex, get your signature on that document right now. I’ll call this fucker, and we can get moving…”
It took a little more convincing and a bit of pulling Alex to the side to talk some sense into him, but the coward was afraid of losing the money.
“What if he finds out…?” he asked, obviously anxious.
“He won’t. And if he does, we’ll tell him it was the settlement you wanted because the premise of the wedding included that. Come on, man…”
And Raina, whatever Alex had told her, worked. She signed off the estate to her husband and got it off the Grahams. That was one part down. They had both agreed on what seemed like the hardest part.
I took my phone out, drew in a breath, and dialed Nathan’s number. He answered on the first ring, as though he had been waiting by his phone for the call to come through. Almost like he knew I would reach out. The thought that he had always been thinking and planning ahead angered me. Maybe Alex was right.

He had to have lost it. I couldn’t understand what part of his brain thought it would be a good idea to even think about indulging Nathan.
“Hey, look at me…” Alex’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts, where everything seemed to have gotten darker today. I was so done with Nathan and his existence that I just wanted to be in a world where he didn’t exist at all.
