Chapter 198 Trivial Romance
Benson pursed his lips together in the silence, his fingers interlocked tightly as if bound by an invisible shackle, locking away all his anger and pain.
"Acting recklessly will only make others look down on you. Look at what you've become these past few weeks. Are you telling me that you can't accomplish anything without Sierra by your side? You've truly disappointed me," Liam asked in a deep, disapproving voice.
Benson kept his head down and remained silent.
"Your career should be your top priority. Make your grandfather see you in a new light instead of getting caught up in petty romance. Think it over carefully."
With that, Liam stood up and left the living room.
Benson sat on the couch for a long time, unmoving even as the sky outside darkened completely.
Upstairs, Janet stood watching him, her heart aching as she saw him sitting there with his head bowed, seemingly lost in thought.
"You were too harsh on him. All these years, you haven't been able to take anything back from Theo, yet you expect him to compete with Theo?"
She shot Liam an angry glance and spoke in a low voice.
Liam said nothing, merely casting an indifferent look downstairs at Benson before heading down the stairs.
Janet quickly followed him.
"Benson, don't just sit there. Go take a shower and have something to eat," she advised him.
Benson lifted his head and looked at Liam. Then, suddenly, he stood up with an unusually serious expression.
"Dad, I've thought carefully about what you said. I still want Sierra to forgive me. I want to marry her. It is only with her by my side that I find peace and focus on my career."
Liam listened without surprise.
Janet, however, furrowed her brows once again. "You stubborn child, why won't you listen?"
Benson ignored her and continued looking at Liam. "You said it yourself— marrying Sierra will benefit my career. If that's the case, I will marry the woman I love. I won't act impulsively like before. I'll find my own way to make Sierra change her mind."
"Half a month. I'll give you only half a month," came Liam's response. "If you can make Sierra forgive you by then, I won't say anything else. If she still refuses, listen to your mother and go on the blind dates she arranges."
"Deal." Benson nodded resolutely. "You two should continue with the meal. I'm heading back now."
He turned and walked away.
Janet watched his retreating figure and frowned. "Liam, why did you agree to this?
What if Sierra really forgives him and marries him?"
"If she does, then she does. Benson likes her, doesn't he?"
"But I don't like her," she snapped in frustration.
Liam cast her a warning glance. "Janet, I never interfere in your affairs, but thisnoveldrama
time, stay out of it. Let Benson handle it himself."
Janet was furious. She watched as he sat back down on the couch and immediately followed and asked, "Why?"
She couldn't understand.
Liam took a slow sip of tea before replying, "Can't you see that Benson is fixated on Sierra? If he doesn't give up on her himself, his mind will never be at peace. And how can he focus on his career?"
"It's just temporary," came Janet's words. "He'll forget about her after some time."
What do you think?
