Chapter 199 Promise
"It's impossible for him to forget Sierra." Liam mentioned, a shadow passing through his eyes. At the same time, his grip on the cup subtly tightened.
No amount of time could make someone forget their loved ones.
Janet didn't notice the shift in his emotions and instead answered impatiently, "I really don't understand what's so great about Sierra. And what did Benson mean when he said she's helpful for his career? Just because she's a designer?
"There are plenty of talented designers out there. We could hire more to help Benson. Why does it have to be her?"
"Because Dad likes her. And he feels guilty toward her."
"Guilty?" Janet's eyes widened in confusion as she looked at him.
"Mr. Bobby once saved Dad's life, and his health deteriorated because of that. If it had been Dad who was injured instead, Bobby wouldn't have died at a young age. Sierra wouldn't have been left as an orphan. Dad has always carried that guilt because of that.
"He promised Mr. Bobby that he would take care of Sierra, and when she marries, he will give her five percent of Gray Group's shares as a wedding gift to ensure she never has to worry about money for the rest of her life."
"Five percent of the shares? That much?" Janet gasped, completely shocked.
Currently, Theo had the largest stake in Gray Group-with 40 percent. Liam had 20, while Edward controlled 30. The remaining ten percent was split among various shareholders. If Edward gave Sierra five percent, she would become a shareholder of Gray Group.
"Has Edward lost his mind? How could he make such a promise? Why have I never heard about this before? How do you even know?"
A dark glint flashed through Liam's eyes as he lowered his gaze and calmly explained, "When Mr. Bobby was critically ill, I accompanied Dad to see him. At that time, he asked everyone to leave the room and only spoke to Dad. I overheard it from outside the door."
"Then, why didn't you tell me?" Janet sounded like she was blaming him.
"I was worried you might accidentally let it slip in front of Dad." Liam glanced at her, knowing her impulsive nature-she always spoke before thinking.
Janet knew this about herself, too. Feeling a little embarrassed at being called out, she huffed and tried to appear composed.
"No wonder every time I opposed Sierra marrying Benson, you stopped me and told me not to interfere in their relationship. So this is why."
"Benson and Sierra always had a stable relationship. I thought they would eventually marry. I never expected things to turn out like this."
Benson had been too impulsive he had truly disappointed Liam.
Yet, Janet remained indifferent and said dismissively, "What if it was just something Edward said in passing? Gray Group's shares aren't something he can just give away to some young woman on a whim."
However, Liam turned to her with a serious expression. "Dad always fulfills his promises. If he says he will do something, he will follow through."
Her expression changed slightly, her hands instinctively clenching her clothes.
"Then, what do we do? Sierra and Benson have already broken up, and now she's tangled up with Theo instead. Do you think he found out about the shares, and that's why he's suddenly so attentive to her?
"Otherwise, with his personality, why would he take an interest in a woman several years younger than him?"noveldrama
