Chapter 436
Allison stared him down, not backing away for a second. "Yeah.”
Shawn's expression tightened. "You can't take this case. Hand it over to someone else. Right now."
Allison let out a dry laugh. "And who says I have to?"
Shawn's eyes flashed, his jaw clenched. "My family's already bankrupt. Now you want my parents to split, too? Is tearing my family apart the only thing that'll make you happy?"
Allison's voice went cold. "You've got it all wrong. I'm not the one who wants your parents to get divorced-your mom does. Your dad doesn't. I'm on this case to make sure they stay together."
Shawn blinked, thrown off. "Wait, what?"
"I thought I was being pretty clear."
He eyed her, suspicious. "Are you lying to me? My mom says you're the one who convinced them to get divorced."noveldrama
Allison crossed her arms, looking at him like he was a joke.
She gave a low, mocking laugh. "Your mom says this, your mom says that— Shawn, how old are you? Still doing everything your mom tells you? Are you her little lapdog or something?"
Shawn's face twisted. "Can we just stick to the point? No need for personal attacks."
Allison huffed, then brushed past him into the apartment lobby. "I don't have time to argue with you."
"Allison, are you seriously trying to keep them together?" Shawn called after her.
She didn't answer, just kept walking.
He chased after her. "Allison, please. Don't let them get divorced."
She shot him a look like he was completely clueless. "Relax. Cindy wants out? I'll make sure she doesn't get what she wants."
There was something about the way she said it that left Shawn uneasy.
The elevator dinged, doors sliding open.
Allison and Brooklyn stepped in. Shawn followed.
"I'm coming up with you. Dad's living alone now-I should check on him."
Allison didn't respond.
They got off at Grant's floor and knocked.
Grant opened the door, frowning at his son. "What are you doing here?"
"Dad, you haven't been home in forever. I came to check on you. If you don't want a divorce, why aren't you going back?"
Grant sighed. "Your mom's impossible lately. I'm tired of the drama. It's easier just to keep my distance."
"My mom talks tough, but she's got a soft heart. You two have been married forever-don't you know her by now?"
Grant shook his head. "That's
exactly why I know she's serious this
time. She wants the divorce Ske
wants to leave both of us bebind
and start over."
Shawn glared. "No way. She's not like that. She told me she's only filing for
divorce because you had some mistress."
He turned to Allison. "If you're on my
dad's side, why did you send my mom those photos of his affair? Mom said you sent them, and that's way she wants to leave How can, you say you're not behind this?"
Grant's eyes narrowed, locking on Allison. "You gave her proof I cheated?"
Allison just snorted.
"Shawn, seriously, think for a
second-if I'm trying to keep them together, why would I hand over evidence that hurts my own client?" She shot him a sharp look. "Your
mom hired someone to dig up that
dirt She's blaming it
She's blaming it on me so you'll
hate me and my client wont trust
me. That's all this is."
Shawn frowned, doubt creeping in. "I mean... that actually makes sense."
Allison's lips curled into a smirk. "You believe everything your mom says. If you're
that loyal, why don't you just marry Kate already?"
What do you think?
