Chapter 538
The nurse glanced at him and said, "You may."
After all, Timothy was immediate family; he could take responsibility. If an outsider signed and something went wrong, the hospital couldn't bear that liability.
She handed the consent form to Timothy. As he took the pen and prepared to sign, the butler raised his hand as if to object, but let it drop. If he stopped Timothy from signing in front of the nurse, there truly would be no one else to do it.
Even if he called Vince, Vince wouldn't be able to get here in time.
Timothy signed his name, and the nurse went back inside.
The butler stepped aside.noveldrama
Timothy remained standing at the door to the operating room.
Regardless of his relationship with Jessica, Larkin was ill, and as soon as Timothy heard, he knew he had to come. Besides, Jessica was still Larkin's
granddaughter; he couldn't just walk away.
The butler called Vince.
"Mr. Zimmerman, sir had a bad fall today and lost consciousness. He was brought to the hospital, and the doctors diagnosed a brain hemorrhage. They need to do a minimally invasive procedure, but there's no one here to sign the surgical consent."
"How did this happen?" Vince's voice was tight. "Let me speak to the doctor-I'II give my consent over the phone. Whatever happens, the surgery comes first."
The butler lowered his voice. "President Lawson happened to visit the Zimmerman home today. He ran into me, learned what happened, and followed me to the hospital. He just signed the consent form."
Vince's brow furrowed deeply. Still, he had no grounds to object; after all, none of the family were home.
This couldn't go on. Grandpa was getting older-someone needed to be at home with him.
"Alright. I understand. I'll be back as soon as I can."
Vince hung up and hurried to his parents. The butler just called. Grandpa collapsed outside and was rushed to the hospital. He's suffered a brain hemorrhage and is in surgery now. I need to get back right away."
Mrs. Zimmerman, whose health had improved lately, said, "New Year's is just around the corner. Why don't we all go back? Your grandfather's too old to be left alone at home."
Zachary agreed. Their daughter was back, and Mrs. Zimmerman's health was better-returning together made sense.
They went to tell Jessica about
Larkin's condition and their plans to
return. Jessica, worried for her
grandfather, immediately agreed, and the family quickly made
arrangements to fly home.
With everyone leaving, there was no reason for Yates to stay either. He booked
his ticket and headed to the airport with them.
After speaking with Vince, the butler returned to the operating room doors. "President Lawson, Mr. Zimmerman will be here soon.
Perhaps you should go. It's die net
for me to explain your presence, considering the Zimmermans' current attitude toward you."
Timothy's voice was cool. "Their opinion is theirs. Mine is mine. Unless the Zimmermans own the hospital now, I have every right to stand here."
The butler was left speechless. Timothy had made his point, and his stance was clear.
When the doctor finally came out, the butler hurried over to ask about Larkin's condition.
The surgery had gone well. They would need to wait until Larkin regained consciousness to fully assess his state.
Still, the doctor cautioned them: At his age, a sudden brain hemorrhage was serious, and the outlook might not be optimistic. The family should prepare themselves.
The butler was anxious, but there was nothing he could do. He was just the butler. Decisions like this would have to wait until the Zimmermans returned.
He followed the staff to Larkin's hospital room. Timothy paused at the door,
glanced inside, then turned away to make a phone call.
No matter what, he couldn't let anything happen to Larkin.
He told Secretary Allen to contact leading cardiovascular specialists and have
them brought to Riverside Hospital as soon as possible.
