Rowan paused before getting out of the car. His foot, which was about to step out, was now pulled back

"No," Lily answered, but she couldn't help but tighten her grip on the seat.

Waiting was always agonizing. Even though her days were filled with caring for Hayden, eating, drinking, and taking a walk, she still lost five or six pounds with no

work to do.

As Maryame put it, "You've lost so much weight. Your eyes look bigger now."

She had long eyes, not round, and her once slightly round face had become sharper. People used to say she was a beautiful woman with potential. Now, she had become a perfectly refined beauty.

"What do you want to eat? I'll cook for you tonight, but you can't stay at my place anymore."

Lily didn't care about her weight. She was focused on Hayden's condition. Since his illness, he had lost a lot of weight, but after starting treatment with Rowan, he began eating and sleeping regularly, gaining some weight back. Maryanne glanced at the couch where Hayden was sitting and persisted, "Can't I just sleep on the couch for one night?"

"The couch is too small even for a child. Don't you mind? Lily laughed. "Isn't your big double bed comfortable?"

"But my bed doesn't have you," Maryanne said, eyeing Lily's small apartment, "Why don't you and Hayden move in with me?"

Her suggestion became more outrageous, and Lily just smiled without responding.

But that didn't stop her from continuing, "Hayden's illness isn't cured, Why did he get discharged? Is it because there's no more money for treatment?

"If you tell me, I'll help you. If your parents don't care about you, I will. You can take care of me when I'm old, but Hayden's illness can't be ignored"

"His treatment is ongoing," Lily interrupted her. "Dr. Blackwood visits every few days to treat him,"

She had been in high society all her life, seeing all kinds of dirty dealings and people. Someone like Lily, pretty and pushed to the edge by life, was the perfect opportunity for a man to take advantage of. Her expression made Lily feel dirty.

Lily had to clarify things. "Terence introduced Dr. Blackwood. He's helping because of Terence's favor." She then explained how Terence had introduced Rowan.

Maryanne raised her voice. "When did he start doing good deeds behind my back?"

Her sixth sense as a woman told her that something was off. She sized Lily up briefly but couldn't find anything suspicious.

Grabbing her bag, she stood up and left. "Forget it. Take good care of Hayden. I won't bother you anymore. But remember, let me know if something happens, or we'll fall out."

"Got it," Lily said, standing up to see her out.

Maryanne Took the elevator down. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she called Terence.

He always answered her calls quickly. "Maryanne, what's up?"

"Was it you who found Hayden's attending doctor?" Maryanne wasted no time. "When did you start caring so much about Lily's matters?"

He paused momentarily and calmly said, "I just helped introduce them. I didn't intentionally find someone for them."

"I don't belleve it!" she said without hesitation. "Now that Hayden is out of the hospital because they ran out of money for treatment, the doctor even went to Lily's house to treat him for free. Did you secretly pay for his medical bills?"

He was unaware of Hayden's discharge. He had exchanged a favor to get Rowan to treat Hayden, but his relationship with Rowan was limited to that. He would not do something like this just because of Terence.

He told the truth. "No. Maybe. Dr. Blackwood just thinks it's a shame for Hayden to give up on treatment.' That was the only reason he could think of, but even he didn't fully believe it.
