Nora

Chapter 152

Chapter 152:

Inside the interview room.

After contacting the professors in each specialty, the four examiners would collate the candidates’ interview reports, sort them according to the professor they had selected, and then pass them on to the respective professors. The professors would then choose the candidates they wanted.

Candidates who were not selected would then move on to their next choice of professor and be reassigned, and so on.

As a new professor at NYU School of Medicine, Tina York was one of today’s examiners. On her way to the bathroom in the middle of the interviews, she had happened to see Nora with Lisa and Angela. She had immediately narrowed her eyes at the sight of them.

Angela’s interview was already over at that point.

When it was Lisa’s turn, I had deliberately asked her some difficult questions to make things complex for her. And, indeed, I had messed up her answers even more.

However, the research topic Lisa had proposed during her self-presentation had been a refreshing change from the usual.

After leaving, the four examiners had had differing opinions when discussing whether or not to clear her for interview.

Some of the teachers were more pragmatic. One of them said, “Although the research topic is relatively unpopular, the results of her written exam are good and can completely make up for such a deficiency. Besides, we can argue with her and get her to change her research topic, then it won’t be a problem.”

Tina, however, scoffed, “As a surgeon, thoroughness and calmness are the most important qualities one should possess. But not only did he lose his ID card, he even lost his admission ticket. Moreover, her answers were rather sloppy when she came for the interview and she gave the impression of being unprepared. She clearly panicked. Her mental capacity is clearly not up to par.”

The professor frowned and said, “I happen to think exactly the opposite. She was able to complete the interview and accurately express her thoughts even after so much had happened. You can tell she is still quite orderly even in the midst of confusion and panic.”

Another teacher said, “Yes, I think Mr. Shaw will like her!”.

Seeing that all three teachers were speaking in her favor, Tina looked down and said, “Then we’ll let her pass.”

People who passed the interview were not necessarily admitted to graduate school.

Once all the interviews were done, Tina took it upon herself to send Director Shaw the details of candidates interested in becoming graduate students under him.

She sent Angela Smith’s immediately when she got to hers.

It was all form and no substance. Although it spoke boastfully, it had no substance at all. Director Shaw would definitely not be interested. Besides, he had just said that he had already contacted Director Shaw. In that case, he would definitely ask for her if he didn’t see her information anyway.

Lisa Black, however…

Tina raised her head and looked at the other three teachers: she could withhold her data for a few minutes.

When Principal Shaw responded with his choices of candidates, Tina finally feigned surprise and said, “Principal Shaw, there’s still another candidate here. Here, take a look…”

However, Director Shaw said, “The ones I have selected are candidates I have already spoken to. The one you mention probably didn’t approach me beforehand, right? Then I won’t accept her.”

That’s how it was in graduate entrance exams. You definitely have to contact the popular professors beforehand. Otherwise, they would be easily bypassed.

Tina looked at Angela’s data that had been rejected, then at Lisa’s that she hadn’t even submitted, then the corners of her lips curved upward.

Her gaze settled on Angela’s again. He thought about what he’d just secretly despised….

Outside, Nora, who had finished her work, slowly approached.

The door opened practically the moment she reached the entrance. Then, someone came out to announce the results of the interview.

“William Lewis, Doctor Sullivan has accepted your application…”

“That’s great!”

A young man jumped to his feet, excited.

Some cheered and some grieved after that.

After almost half of the candidates’ names were called out, Lisa clenched her fists even tighter and twisted her neck nervously to look in.

Next to her, Angela sneered, “It won’t do any good even if you stick your neck all the way in!”.

At that moment, someone came out with Principal Shaw’s student admission list. “The following is the admission list of those applying for Dr. Shaw as a tutor. There are five candidates selected in all. They are…”

Principal Shaw!

Angela straightened up and looked up with glee.

After slowly reading four names, the professor smiled and said, “There is one last one.”

Angela smiled triumphantly.

Lisa lowered her head in disappointment.

Director Shaw was the only one who would be interested in her research topic. She had taken a chance and hoped that the research topic would attract Director Shaw’s attention. However, it now seemed like a lost cause.

Seeing her duck her head, the corners of Angela’s lips curved upward and she patted him on the shoulder. She said, “It’s okay. I’ll show you my notes when I attend Principal Shaw’s classes in the future. I can teach you anything you want to learn-”

At that moment, the teacher announced, “The last candidate is …. Zack Lee!”

Angela jumped to her feet and looked excitedly at the teacher, but just then she realized that something didn’t seem right….

Her eyes widened and she looked at the professor in disbelief. Her voice was shrill and she asked in surprise, “Who did you say it was, did you make a mistake?”.

A young man suddenly stood up. “It’s me! Hahaha, when I emailed Principal Shaw, his reply contained only the word ‘Received’. I had thought he hadn’t noticed me, but…”

During his excitement, the teacher looked at Angela and said, “By the way, I have assigned Professor York to all the candidates who were not selected but may be reassigned. She is a new teacher and full of drive. I will now announce her list of students….. Angela Smith… Clara Lopez…”

Angela didn’t expect to hear her name there.

It was Principal Shaw she wanted! Not Tina York or whoever she was! How famous could a newcomer to the industry be?

“It’s also very good to be under Professor York, Angela.”

In the midst of her fury, Lisa’s comforting words reached her ears. She turned around. Seeing Lisa’s small, pale face, he suddenly vented all his anger on her. “Of course, it’s all very well. At least I’ve been accepted, but you haven’t even passed!”

Lisa turned even paler.

Angela lashed out at Lisa with vicious words over and over again, as if venting her frustrations. “I was wrong; not just any random Tom, Dick or Harry can become a graduate student of Director Shaw, and yet you applied as a tutor. You sure think highly of yourself!

You’re too ambitious for your own good, Lisa! Why don’t you take a good look at your abilities? There are less than ten people who failed the interview today! Why are you so stupid?”

All around her, the candidates who had been admitted to the university were looking at Lisa with pity, making her wish she could bury herself in a hole….

Nora’s sharp gaze flickered as she stood in the distance and listened to what Angela was saying.

Suddenly, the corners of her lips curved upward and she hung up the cell phone. The email she had just sent was still on the screen.

Almost instantly after sending the email, the professor announcing the results suddenly exclaimed, “Just a moment! There is one more candidate who has been accepted.”

Tina was puzzled to hear what he said. She asked, “Who has accepted the candidate?”.noveldrama

The professor was so excited that he could hardly speak clearly anymore. He replied, “It’s Anti! This is the first time Anti has accepted a graduate student at the university.”

As soon as Anti’s name was mentioned, the whole hallway fell silent. All the candidates looked at the professor who was speaking.

Someone asked, “Who did he choose?”.
