Nora

Chapter 162

Chapter 162:.

Ian lowered his gaze and looked at the comments again.

As a young man, Yvette’s betrayal had brought his whole world crashing down. Later, when Yvette gave birth, he had decided never to see her again for the rest of his life.

He had ignored and paid no attention to the matter even when he learned that the Andersons had brought their daughter back home.noveldrama

He had not expected to see on the live broadcast the person he had been deliberately avoiding.

Initially, he planned to walk off the live feed after a glance, but he could no longer do that.

Someone was bullying Yvette’s daughter-how could she just sit back and ignore him?

Her eyebrows drew together tightly.

At the entrance to the Anderson’s villa.

Roxanne and the cameraman watched Nora in awe.

When Henry talked about his daughter, he had described her as fat, lazy, and someone who had gotten pregnant before she was married. Therefore, they had thought that Miss Smith must be a horrible fat woman or someone who looked mean and vicious. Unexpectedly, she was instead such a clean-cut looking young woman.

The girl was tall and slender. Her almond-shaped eyes should have made her look docile and well-mannered, but on her, instead, they made her seem a bit cold and aloof.

For a moment, the cameraman forgot to switch the camera to her.

As soon as Roxanne spoke, a number of negative comments bombarded the live feed.

‘Has the woman in question finally shown up? Quick, show us what she looks like.’

‘I’m curious, too – what exactly does the woman who abandoned her father look like?’

‘She must be very ugly!’

‘I can already imagine what she looks like: messy hair, dark circles under her eyes, and weird clothes! Although you can’t judge a book by its cover, sometimes the inside is so bad that her appearance can’t be much better.”

Amidst the condemning voices of the crowd, the cameraman finally seemed to realize something, Then he raised the camera and pointed it right at Nora’s face!

The next moment, a stunning face, even more beautiful than that of a celebrity, appeared in front of more than a million viewers watching the live broadcast.

For a moment, the commentary died down a bit.

Everyone let out sighs of admiration:

‘Has a Goddess descended to the mortal realm?’

‘What the hell, isn’t her face too beautiful without makeup?’ Her complexion must be fake, right? If it wasn’t because the skin condition of the person next to her is so obvious, I would have really suspected that she has put on a maximum level filter!’

‘Is that Miss Smith, oh my goodness, if I had a daughter like her, I would spoil her rotten.’

‘Aaaaahhh, I’ve been won over by the look on Miss’s face!’

Among the sighs of admiration there were also sly comments:

‘What’s the use of being so beautiful? She’s still an insensitive and heartless person despite her beauty’.

‘Exactly. Can one live by looks alone? No, you can’t.’

‘How can that young lady be so heartless? How can she quarrel with her father just because he didn’t allow her to give birth to a ruffian’s child…? Besides, she’s so beautiful, why can’t she find some kind of job, any job would do! Why does she have to take advantage of her parents and refuse to work?’

At the hospital, Ian was stunned.

He stared at the screen in amazement, at the clear, vivid face that he could barely remember even in his dreams….

In the past, he had heard it said that time could heal all wounds.

He hadn’t believed it at the time.

But later, it did.

After a separation of more than twenty years, he had actually almost forgotten what Yvette looked like.

However, in that instant, that young woman was as if Yvette had come back to life. He felt as if he had gone back twenty years in time and was seeing what she had looked like when they had separated.

Even the strong, tenacious spirit she carried was somewhat similar to what Yvette had. Only his felt colder, as if he possessed no emotion, while Yvette’s felt mostly bold and brash.

Ian watched the video greedily. He didn’t even dare blink, lest the person in front of him disappear while he wasn’t paying attention.

As expected, his daughter? She looked so much like her!

There was no sign of the man….

For some reason, Ian suddenly felt a little comforted.

On the Andersons.

Nora didn’t notice the changes in the comments. She was looking at Roxanne.

Apparently seeing that she wasn’t saying anything, Roxanne asked again, “Miss Smith, you seem very cultured and educated. Now that things have come to this point, do you really have nothing to say to your father and stepmother?”

Nora raised her eyebrows. The next moment, the audience watched her as she replied distantly, “I do have one thing I want to say.”

Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief. She said, “I knew you would still have feelings for your parents. After all, one shouldn’t ignore the kindness of one’s parents by having raised them. May I know what you would like to say to your father?”

Nora’s lips curved into a smile as she said, “Stay away from me.”

“…”

The three words made Roxanne gag, and the rants in the comments made it even worse.

The corners of Roxanne’s lips spasmed as she said, “There is no greater kindness than the love and care one receives from one’s parents growing up, Miss Smith. You have a daughter too, do you want your daughter to leave you when she is older too?”.

Nora thought carefully. Then she replied, “They can do whatever they want.”

Roxanne, “?”

Nora seemed half amused. She still hadn’t washed and looked a little groggy from waking up. Her hair was also a bit of a mess. It didn’t look luscious enough, but it made her give off even more of a sloppy, slovenly feeling. She added leisurely, “I don’t trust them to keep me in old age.”

Upstairs, Pete, “…”

Away at the Hunts’ family home, Cherry, “…”

Sob! They had been rejected by Mom!

Roxanne frowned and said, “It’s not about the money. It’s about the spiritual companionship.”

Nora, “?”

She looked at Henry and Wendy. “Oh? So, what you’re missing is just your spiritual needs?”

Henry was quick to say, “Of course…but the children are still young, so they should try and strive to succeed now. I can’t always take up the children’s time either. Besides, their stepmother and I are getting older, so we are no longer in good health. We’re thinking of getting checkups, but you and your sister have spent all the money.”

Nora laughed. “In the end, isn’t it just asking for money anyway?”.

Henry immediately replied, “This is not a demand for money! This is something you should give me in the first place!”

Practically after saying that, they heard activity again at the entrance. A moment later, a few policemen entered. The policeman in front wore a police uniform. His posture was straight, he looked stern and handsome. His eyes were as sharp as those of an eagle. As he entered, he fixed his gaze on Nora, his eyes full of scrutiny. Then, he asked unhurriedly, “Did someone file a police report?”

“Yes! I did!” said Melissa as she stepped forward. She pointed to Roxanne and Henry, then said, “These people are trespassing on private property without consent. Please throw them out, sir.”

The policeman leading the team took a look at the situation. After he seemed to have understood what was going on, he said, “Please leave! If not, we will have to use police authority.”

Roxanne furrowed her eyebrows: she hadn’t expected the Andersons to adopt such an aggressive attitude. She looked at Henry and suggested, “Why don’t we come back next time instead of…”.

Henry, however, knew that next time he probably wouldn’t get anywhere if he didn’t settle it once and for all today. So, he immediately shouted, “Sir, I want to file a police report too! That unladylike daughter of mine refuses to support both of us!”
