Chapter 175
Chapter 175:.
The man in the black hood was in charge of running the Smiths’ shady business dealings. He ran a small team consisting of a few people.
The Smiths supported him while he took care of things for them at critical moments.
His name was Quentin Smith and he was a member of the Smith family.
He had never failed in any of the various tasks he had undertaken so far and was basically very reliable.
Although Ian’s request was simple, Joel had always considered him to be more important than his father. Therefore, he had given Quentin the assignment even though it was a simple one.
He had originally thought he would be ready in a few hours, but unexpectedly, a whole day had already passed, and he still hadn’t received any news. Suspecting that Quentin had forgotten to inform him after completing the task, he called him specially to ask him about it.
Quentin had his head down and his whole face was plunged in darkness. His voice was low as he replied, “Sorry, I haven’t gotten it yet.”
Joel was a little surprised.
He didn’t quite understand. There were many ways to obtain a person’s DNA sample.
For example, there could be saliva on the target’s silverware during meals, or they could also catch her off guard and pluck a few strands of hair from her head. If all else failed, they could also get some tissue from the skin….
Quentin was a ruthless man. Surely his heart wouldn’t soften just because his target was a beauty, would it?
Joel frowned. He was about to ask when Quentin scratched his head. He looked a little hurt as he said, “I’ve never seen a woman as isolated as she is.”
Quentin looked at Joel. He sounded aggrieved as he said, “I’ve been watching her for a day and a night. During this time, she has eaten and slept for 24 hours! She always washes the dishes immediately after eating. I can barely find her fingerprints at the Anderson’s house, let alone get her DNA sample!”.
An indignant Quentin continued. “His water glass is sitting right on his nightstand, isn’t it? Surely there’s saliva in it, right? But no, there isn’t! Clean the glass even if she only takes a sip – is she really a woman?”
It was only when Quentin looked up that Joel noticed the dark circles under his eyes. It was obvious that he hadn’t slept in twenty-four hours, but despite that, he said exceptionally briskly, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep watching her even if she doesn’t eat or drink. I don’t think she can lock herself in the house for a whole month.”
“…Did you sneak into the Anderson’s house?” asked Joel.
“Yes, I did.” Quentin nodded.
Joel frowned. “You were found out?”
He just wanted a DNA test done in secret. He didn’t want to antagonize the Andersons.
Quentin shook his head. “I’m confident enough about that, at least. My steps are light and I carry my equipment wherever I go. No trace will be left behind.”
Joel nodded. Then, he turned and started to walk out of the room.
“Where are you going?” asked Quentin.
“To send my daughter to the garden.”

At the Anderson’s.
Nora stretched after waking up. Then, she shuffled out of her bedroom. As she was leaving the room, her eyes flickered a little and she looked at the door.
As expected, the lock of hair she had stuck to the door before going to bed had fallen out.
From the looks of it, she wasn’t imagining things when she felt someone sneak into her room while she slept the night before.
Nora looked around the house, but found nothing missing from the house. The only things that had been touched were her water glass and the trash can in the bathroom.
Tsk.
What a disgusting thief!
Nora shook her head. At the same time, she also became wary. It seemed her mother was right.
She was already going unnoticed and yet people were noticing her. Life was too dangerous.
If she died and turned to ashes, would she be free of disturbance forever?
Nora shook her head and gave up the thought. Then she led Pete out of the house and sent him into the garden.
On the way, Tanya asked, “Has hell frozen over today Nora? Even though I’m at home, you’ve taken the initiative to take us to the garden! And you even got up early in the morning.”
“… Oh, I’m going to NYU School of Medicine for a pre-op medical consultation later, so I need the car. It just so happens that the garden is in the way.”
Tanya, “…”
The corners of her lips spasmed and she held Pete as she yelled, “Look at your mom, Cherry! She has practically no self-awareness! Even though she woke up so early, it’s not for us at all!”
Pete was silent for a moment before replying, “….. Godmother, why do you have to humiliate yourself by asking something like that?”.
Tanya, “?????”
It took her quite a while before she finally realized what Pete meant. After that, she coughed and commented, “Looks like it, huh!”
“…”
Pete let out a silent sigh. Suddenly he asked, “Will Mia be in the garden today?”.
A dejected look appeared on Tanya’s face at the mention of the name. She shook her head and replied, “I don’t know.”noveldrama
Pete couldn’t help but ask, “Can you call them and ask for her?”
Tanya’s jaw tightened and she replied, “We’d better talk about it next time.”
After sending the couple off to the garden, Nora headed for the New York University School of Medicine. The boy’s brain operation was a classic case of conditions like hers, so many people had come to the meeting, including all the professors and heads of the neurosurgery department.
He parked the car outside the conference room. He was about to get in when he happened to see Tina.
With a small notebook in her hand, Tina had her back straight and was about to get in.
She was very happy today.
Although she had failed to get Nora her comeuppance during the live broadcast, there was after all an old but true saying: Those who face frustrations in love, flourish in their careers!
At last she had given her career a new lease of life.
His request to perform the operation together with Anti and Director Shaw had been approved.
Although Anti had also performed an operation when Tina was helping to care for Elderly Mrs. Hunt the other time, he had brought his own equipment, so Tina had not been allowed into the operating room.
That time she had wanted to observe the operation and learn from it, but Justin had not agreed.
But now, at last, her chance had come.
Moreover, she had obtained the right to personally participate in the operation.
In other words, he could now help Anti in the operation. Even if all he did was a simple suture, the fact that everyone knew him would elevate his standing in the medical field.
However, as she was walking, she suddenly caught a glimpse of a certain obnoxious person.
Tina stopped in her tracks. Sure enough, she saw a careless figure approaching quietly from the parking lot: it was none other than Nora.
She frowned and headed for the conference room. However, after taking a few steps, he realized that Nora had also approached. The two of them were even at the entrance to the conference room.
Seeing that she was about to enter, Tina immediately asked, “What are you doing here?”
Nora looked at her but said nothing. However, Tina suddenly reached out her arm and stopped her. She said, “I’m sorry, but we have an important meeting with Director Shaw today. If you are here because of Director Shaw, I advise you to go to his office and wait there. This is not a place where unrelated staff can enter so casually.”
Nora, “?”
The woman, half amused, looked at Tina, finding her terribly giggly. “Unrelated personnel?” she asked.
Tina nodded and looked at her. He said, “Miss Smith, I would advise you not to be so greedy and insatiable. You were already very lucky to get into Anti’s O.R. thanks to Mr. Hunt last time. Are you going to follow us into the O.R. to observe again this time? It can’t be one person hogging all the good stuff, can it?”
