Chapter 176
Chapter 176:
“Last time?”
Nora raised her eyebrows again. She had long since forgotten that she had already operated on Mrs. Hunt.
Tina frowned at her reaction. She said, “You can’t be that greedy, can you? It is said that everyone gains different knowledge and experiences from watching Anti operate. You should give more such opportunities to other people, Miss Smith.”
As she spoke, she saw out of the corner of her eye Assistant Director Shaw approaching. He changed his attitude immediately, going from haughty to his usual friendly demeanor. She let out a sigh and said, “I’m not doing this to fight for opportunities for myself, of course; I’m already cleared to enter the operating room. I just don’t think Miss Smith should bother Director Shaw about things like this. We were allowed into the operating room only after going through a careful screening process. If you make use of such means to get in, then it will mean that someone else who deserves the opportunity will not be allowed in…”
No doubt his comment resonated with the person approaching.
There was no way everyone could get into the operating room. One more person entering would mean one less person from the school entering. Besides, observing and learning up close would also be different than just watching videos.
The assistant was a doctoral student. Once he graduated, he would remain on campus and become a professor as well as a specially invited head physician at the hospital. He was also the protégé of whom Director Shaw was most proud. His name was Michael Lange.
He curved his lip disdainfully inwardly and said with some reluctance, “Director Shaw asked me to bring you in.”
Tina frowned at the sight of him.
What contacts was Nora using to get Director Shaw to treat her so kindly? To top it off, he had even sent his most capable assistant to pick her up.
The Andersons were not capable of this. In that case, could it be the Hunts?
Tina lowered her head and followed behind them.
When Nora entered the conference room, Director Shaw was in the middle of a consultation with some experts. Doctors at Tina’s level could only occupy the farthest seats and listen to their discussion.
However, as soon as Nora entered, Director Shaw stood up and said, “You are here, Miss Smith.”
As he spoke, he motioned to yield his seat to her.
Nora waved and said, “That’s fine.”
She pulled up a chair at random, sat down behind the two and said, “Go ahead, don’t mind me.”
Director Shaw understood how she was-the big boss didn’t like trouble, so she could leave sooner-so she didn’t dare say much about it. Instead, he continued the discussion with the others.
Tina, who was sitting in the back, looked at the graduate students behind the row of chairs and curved her lip in disdain.
The real head physicians were sitting up front and participating in the discussion.
Only the graduate students who came to study sat behind their professors. Sometimes, when there were not enough chairs for everyone, they had to stand.
Among those who came to listen, Michael was the only one qualified to sit in front.noveldrama
He had thought Nora must be very capable, but it turned out that she was also here just to listen.
The corners of his lips curved into a smile.
Two hours later.
“… This is a bleeding point. We have to take special care to avoid this point during the operation.”
After discussing various possibilities, Director Shaw and the others finalized the surgical plan.
Director Shaw was a relatively democratic and magnanimous person. Whenever he had an operation scheduled, he would have his doctoral and graduate students discuss it together. Thus, he would ask, “Do you have any other opinions, or is there anything you think we should pay attention to?”
With the tutor-level physicians jointly discussing the operation, they had already gone over all the details, so they all shook their heads.
Director Shaw then looked at Nora and asked, “Is there anything special that needs to be taken into consideration?”
Nora raised her almond-shaped, slightly world-weary eyes and quietly pronounced, “No.”
This was a minor operation. Director Shaw had already considered all the possibilities.
Nora had listened to their discussion very seriously. As a result, now that she had relaxed, she couldn’t help yawning after she spoke.
It made her look lazy and sloppy, as if she had been on the verge of falling asleep the whole time.
Tina looked at Michael and sighed. She said, “Some people don’t even get a chance to come in and listen even if they want to, but some people don’t know how to appreciate the opportunity they have. What a waste of places…”.
A constantly serious Michael looked around.
All the students who were here for the debate were standing at attention. They were all carrying pens and notebooks, writing notes. Some had even brought recording pens for fear of missing important things to take notes on.
Even Director Shaw and the other chief physicians had notebooks and were taking notes on the key points of the operation.
Nora was the only one sitting nonchalantly.
Michael thought of his roommate, who had not been selected to participate in Anti’s operation because she was one slot short. Before coming here, his envious roommate had told him, “You are someone blessed. I’m willing to do anything just to observe Anti’s operation even once.”
Anti was the idol of all neurosurgeons. An opportunity like this was simply too rare, and yet that woman was not appreciating it!
In the midst of his thoughts, Director Shaw said, “Michael, go to my office and get the list of personnel who will be participating in the operation the day after tomorrow.”
Michael nodded.
Director Shaw’s office was right next door. The personnel list needed his signature for final approval.
After taking the list, he casually glanced at the names on it as he returned.
The first on the list was Anti.
In the past, his name was something that existed only in legends. Now, however, he had the opportunity to meet her up close. The mere sight of her name made Michael excited.
The second was Director Shaw…
Below was a list of attendees. He went through the names from top to bottom, but suddenly realized that Nora’s name was not on it….
His footsteps suddenly became light and springy.
He knew that Director Shaw was not a man who acted on his contacts.
When he returned to the conference room, Director Shaw announced the list and signed it. He then dismissed everyone. Then, turning to Nora, he said, “Please wait for me a moment, Miss Smith. I have a very important telephone consultation that will take about ten minutes, but I have something to talk to you about later.”
Nora yawned again and nodded.
Director Shaw said, “Michael, take Ms. Smith to my office first!”
Michael nodded and led Nora out of the conference room.
Tina was delighted when she heard the list of personnel involved in the operation.
She hadn’t expected Nora’s name not to be there. It seemed that the connections she had used were not powerful enough after all.
She wondered if she was filled with rage at that moment. Or perhaps she was angry and embarrassed?
Tina really wanted to admire her face and facial expression.
Therefore, she lingered a bit in the bathroom. When she saw Michael come out of the conference room with Nora, she walked over and pretended to bump into them. Then he pretentiously said, “You won’t be able to observe Anti’s operation this time, Dr. Smith. But don’t be too disappointed. After all, there will always be another chance next time, won’t there?”.
Nora, “????”
She looked at Tina lazily. “Are you very bored and idle today?”
Tina looked down and said, “How can you say that? I was just trying to comfort you out of kindness. I know you must be in a very bad mood because you can’t participate in Anti’s operation, but this can’t evi…”
No sooner had she said that, however, than Nora interrupted her and said, “Who says I won’t participate?”
