Chapter 1478
When they arrived, they didn't call Knox, but the steward inside recognized them both and directly arranged for them to be seated in a private booth.
Vincent had returned to Ashford the second day of winter break to carry on his family's legacy, spending almost every day at Herb & Hearth cooking.
Hearing the steward mention Mirabella was there for dinner, he quickly set down the ingredients in his hands and headed to the booth.
But the moment he saw Mirabella, Vincent was taken aback. "Boss, have you been dieting too hard?"
Her complexion was poor, and her cheeks were so gaunt they seemed to be all skin and bones.
He had never seen Mirabella look so haggard.
Mirabella shot Vincent a glance, forcing a rather insincere smile, "What, isn't being
a chef enough for you, or do you have energy to gossip about others too?" Vincent: "..."
As expected, the boss never lost in a verbal exchange.
Touching his nose, Vincent didn't dare to ask more. He glanced at James beside her.
Although James was sitting quietly, the aura emanating from him was somewhat intimidating.
Seeing this, Vincent quickly averted his gaze, asking Mirabella what she would like to eat. After she ordered a few dishes, he hurried back to the kitchen.
Being the third wheel wasn't easy.
Watching Vincent's hasty retreat, Mirabella turned back to James, "You might have scared him."
James, whose hand was under the table holding Mirabella's, warming it, finally spoke with a hint of disdain, "Too young, can't keep calm."
Mirabella silently looked away.
The age joke was a barrier some couldn't get over.

After dinner, they left Herb & Hearth. On the way back, James' phone rang several times, but he just glanced at it and didn't answer.
Only when the car stopped outside the Davis family's villa, and Mirabella was about to get out, did she turn back to James, "If you're busy, you can go back to the capital early. I'm fine."
James looked at her for a moment and then nodded, "Alright."
Then, he remembered something, opened the glove compartment, and took out a
small jewelry box, handing it to Mirabella.
Mirabella's gaze fell on the jewelry box James handed over, hesitated for a
moment, then reached out to take it.
Inside was a necklace with a white jade pendant, both in color and texture, it was of high quality.
"I've been thinking, maybe I should keep the necklace you're wearing for a while, what do you think?" James' voice came again.
Mirabella looked up at James, somewhat puzzled.
James was calm, simply stating, "I'm worried it might bring back memories."
Mirabella realized what he meant and shook her head, "It won't."
After saying this, her eyelashes slightly drooped, casting shadows that covered the dark circles under her eyes, and her lips suddenly curved into a smile. fo
Her grandmother had told her not to be sad and to look forward.
Nevertheless, Mirabella took off the necklace around her neck, her fingertips gently touching the jade pendant, and then she handed the
necklace directly to him.
James held the jade pendant a bit tighter, seeing that Mirabella didn't ask further,
he felt a slight relief.
Mirabella gave him a look and said, "I'll go in first."
"Alright."
James watched Mirabella's figure disappear into the doorway before retracting his gaze, opening his palm to look at the fish-shaped pendant, his eyes deep.
After a moment, he carefully stored the necklace.noveldrama
