Chapter 926
Chapter 926:
Hadley took Elissa by the arm, and they both headed to the living room, where Joy was quietly engaged with her new Lego set.
“Ouch…” Elissa suddenly clutched at her eyes, issuing a muted groan.
“Elissa?” Hadley turned to her, concerned. “What is it? Is something bothering your eyes?”
“Yes.” Elissa nodded, massaging her temples. “My eyes are strained, and I’m starting to get a headache.”
This was serious.
Elissa was scheduled for eye surgery, and it was crucial that no complications arose.
“You should see a doctor, Elissa.”
However, getting a quick appointment with Elissa’s eye specialist wasn’t an option; they typically required scheduling in advance. She only got to cut in line last time because of Ernest’s help.
But was it advisable for Elissa to wait, given her symptoms?
There was one potential shortcut—they could reach out to Ernest again. Hadley paused. She had just declined Ernest’s request to visit Eric at the hospital.
Would he still be willing to help if she called now, even if it was for Elissa’s sake?
Despite her doubts, she pulled out her phone and dialed Ernest. Whether he would be inclined to help or not, she couldn’t overlook Elissa’s urgent need. She had to at least try.
Ernest answered right away. “Hello, Hadley.” His voice was low, worn down by fatigue.
“Ernest.” Hadley’s mind raced. Could it be that Eric was still unconscious? She chose not to inquire but instead quickly relayed Elissa’s predicament.
“That’s the situation. She needs to see her doctor urgently, but it’s appointment-only.”
She paused, holding her breath in anticipation of his response.
“I understand,” came Ernest’s composed reply. “I’ll be there shortly.”
Hadley was momentarily stunned. “Alright, we’ll wait.”
After ending the call, her mind was awash with mixed feelings. Was Ernest actually coming himself? She had only expected him to facilitate an appointment.
Yet, his personal involvement would undoubtedly sway the doctor more effectively.
Hadley turned to Elissa with the unexpected update. “Ernest will be here soon to take you to the doctor.”
“What?” Elissa’s reaction was a mix of surprise and concern. “It feels wrong to bother him like this. Isn’t he still with Eric at the hospital?”
Hadley was puzzled as well.noveldrama
She knew Ernest was thoughtful, but when it came to Elissa, there was something more—something unusually attentive.
Outside Hadley’s apartment building, Ernest pulled up and parked, waiting in silence for them to come down. At the same time, Linda arrived at Millland Road.
She had come to find Hadley. The address had been easy enough to get—her agent pulled it from the records at the TV station, where Hadley had recently worked as a dance instructor in a show before quitting later.
The taxi stopped near the apartment complex. Linda stepped out and took a deep breath before making her way forward.
It had been three days, and Eric’s condition hadn’t improved at all.
