Unhinged Omega: A Dark Reverse Harem Omegaverse Romance (Ghost Alpha Unit Book 4)

Unhinged Omega: Chapter 22

I lower my smoking gun, watching with smug satisfaction as Nikolai crumples to his knees. Two red stains blossom on the back of his shirt, spreading like spilled wine. For a moment, everything goes still. The chaos around us fades to white noise as I stare at the man I’ve wanted dead for so long.

Raven’s scream shatters the silence.

‘No!’

The raw anguish in his voice catches me off guard. I watch, stunned, as he takes off running toward Nikolai’s fallen form.

What the fuck?

I shake off my confusion and climb out of the vehicle, my boots hitting the ground with a dull thud. Raven’s frozen now, staring at Nikolai in clear shock.

Good. Makes my job easier.

I stride forward, gun still in hand. Time to finish this. I’ve dreamed of this moment for years, imagined all the ways I’d make that bastard suffer. But in the end, a clean double tap will have to do. No time for theatrics with that giant fucking alpha about to resume kicking our asses.

As I raise my gun, aiming for Nikolai’s head, a blur of gold fills my vision. Raven throws himself between us, arms outstretched. My finger tightens on the trigger reflexively, and for a heart-stopping moment, I think I’m going to shoot the idiot by accident.

I jerk the gun up at the last second, the shot going wide. ‘What the fuck, Raven?’ I snarl.

But he’s not listening. He grabs my forearm with both hands, hanging off it with all his strength. Tears stream down his face as he begs incoherently. It takes me a moment to make sense of his words.

‘Please,’ he chokes out. ‘Please don’t kill him. I’m begging you, Geo. Don’t do this.’

I stare down at him, incredulous. Is this the same alpha who’s spent years plotting his revenge?

‘Have you lost your fucking mind?’ I demand, trying to shake him off. But he clings tighter, his nails digging into my skin. ‘Get off me!’

‘I can’t let you do this,’ Raven pleads. ‘Please, Geo. I’ll do anything. Just… don’t kill him.’

Well, shit.

He’s calling me by my name instead of ‘Daddy.’

He’s dead serious.

Something ugly twists in my gut. I’ve seen Raven in all sorts of states—drunk, high, manic, depressed—but never like this.

Never so… broken. Even back then.

And for some reason, it makes me want to kill the motherfucker even more. Now I really don’t just want to double tap him. I have half the mind to throw his dying ass to the goddamn mutant alpha waking up under the busted shipping containers. Turn him into chow.

‘Why?’ I growl, grabbing a fistful of Raven’s shirt and hauling him up to eye level. ‘Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t put a bullet in that bastard’s head right now.’

Raven’s blue eyes are wild, unfocused. He shakes his head frantically. ‘I don’t know,’ he whispers. ‘I don’t know, I just… please. Please, Geo.’

I want to shake Raven. Want to slap some sense into him. But looking at him now, I know I won’t get anything coherent out of him.

Fuck!

I lower my gun, shoving Raven aside. He stumbles, falling to his knees beside Nikolai’s prone form. I watch as he reaches out with trembling hands, hesitating just short of touching him.

A growl builds in my chest. I should just shoot this motherfucker and be done with it.

But…

I grind my teeth, weighing my options. As much as I want Nikolai dead, keeping him alive might be more useful.

And a hell of a lot more entertaining.

Best of all, Raven won’t fucking shatter. Because that’s a possibility, apparently.

A deafening crash draws our attention. The mutant alpha bursts free from the pile of shipping containers, shaking off debris like a dog shaking off water. He looks like hell. More of his mask has crumbled away, revealing a face that’s more scars than skin. If it weren’t for the stark silhouette of his nose, I’d think he didn’t have a face at all. Black blood oozes like ink from dozens of wounds.

But he’s still standing.

Still a threat.

I raise my gun, ready for round two, but something strange happens. The huge alpha pauses, lifting his head to scent the air. Those eerie blue eyes narrow, and suddenly he’s moving. Not toward us, but toward the forest.

In the same direction Cosima ran.

‘No!’ Raven cries out, scrambling to his feet. ‘Cosima!’

He takes off running after the beast, and something in me snaps. I’ve had e-fucking-nough of this bullshit.

I lunge forward, wrapping my arm around Raven’s throat in a chokehold. He thrashes against me, clawing at my arm, but I’ve got size and strength on my side. I tighten my grip, cutting off the blood flow to his apparently empty head.

‘Shh,’ I mutter as he struggles. ‘Just go to sleep, you little shit.’

It takes longer than I’d like, but eventually, Raven’s arms drop and he goes floppy and boneless against my chest. I hoist him over my shoulder, grunting at the dead weight. Fucker’s heavier than he looks.

I carry him back to the armored vehicle, fishing a roll of duct tape out of the glove compartment. It takes some maneuvering because he’s so limp, but I manage to tape his wrists behind his back for good measure.

There. That ought to hold him for a while.

Now for the other problem.

I turn back to where Nikolai lies bleeding on the ground. Part of me still wants to put a bullet in his head and be done with it. And it’s a big fucking part. But another part… another part wants answers.

And maybe a little payback.

I grab more tape and some rope from the vehicle. By the time I’m done, Nikolai looks like a mummy wrapped in silver. I’m none too gentle as I haul him to the trunk, taking a perverse satisfaction in the way his head thunks against the metal.

‘Sweet dreams, asshole,’ I mutter as I slam the trunk shut.

I know an alpha’s healing factor means he’s not likely to die from those wounds anytime soon. Which means there’s a chance he could wake up mid-transport.

Better make this quick.

On my way back to the driver’s side door, I spot Nikolai’s precious red sunglasses in the dirt. The ones he uses to hide his fucky eye. I’m about to stomp on them and crush them to bits beneath my boot when I decide it’d be more fun to taunt him with them. I stick them in my pocket instead.

Oh, yeah. We’re going to have loads of fun.

I climb into the driver’s seat, sparing a glance at Raven’s unconscious form beside me. His face is peaceful in sleep, almost angelic, all that manic energy finally stilled.

It’s almost unnerving.

I start the engine, the familiar rumble a comfort in the chaos. Nikolai’s men are still scrambling to regroup, tending to their wounded. Including Lex, who took a bullet to the knee. Guess that’s gonna put a damper on her adventuring days.

Not my fucking problem.

I throw the vehicle into gear and peel out, kicking up a cloud of dust and gravel. My knuckles are white on the steering wheel as I point us toward home. Toward the relative safety of my underground empire.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into?

The events of the past hour play on repeat in my mind as I drive. The giant fucking mutant alpha. The omega. Nikolai.

And Raven…

I glance over at him again, a muscle in my jaw twitching. I’ve known the kid for years, thought I had him pretty well figured out. But this? This is something else entirely.

The way he begged for Nikolai’s life…

I shake my head, forcing my attention back to the road. One problem at a time. Right now, I need to focus on getting us the hell out of here before—

A bullet pings off the side mirror, making me curse. I check the rearview mirror and see a couple of Nikolai’s goons in hot pursuit.

Persistent fuckers.noveldrama

‘Alright,’ I growl, ‘you want to play?’

I lean out the window, gun in hand. It takes some tricky maneuvering, but I manage to pop a couple of their tires. The vehicle behind us swerves wildly before spinning out.

Amateur hour.

I settle back into my seat, a grim smile tugging at my lips. Without Nikolai or Lex to lead them, these idiots don’t stand a chance.

A groan from beside me draws my attention. Raven’s starting to come around, his eyelids fluttering.

Great. Just what I need.

‘Rise and shine, sleeping beauty,’ I mutter as his eyes finally open.

It takes him a moment to get his bearings, but when he does, all hell breaks loose.

‘What the fuck?’ he snarls, thrashing against his bonds. ‘Let me go, you son of a bitch! We have to go back! Cosima—’

‘Cosima this, Cosima that,’ I cut him off. ‘In case you hadn’t noticed, your precious omega is long gone. Took off into the woods like a bat out of hell. Hope she runs and runs and never looks back.’

The look he gives me could melt steel. ‘How dare you,’ he hisses. ‘Turn this fucking car around right now or I swear to all the gods—’

‘You’ll what?’ I sneer. ‘Annoy me to death? Cry on me? Face it, kiddo. You’re not exactly in a position to make demands.’

He lets out a wordless scream of rage, throwing himself against the tape. For a moment, I think he might actually break free. But the duct tape holds, and eventually he slumps back, panting.

‘I hate you,’ he spits.

Ouch.

‘Yeah, yeah. The feeling’s mutual, believe me.’ I reach for the radio, cranking up the volume. Disco. Oddly fitting for this crazy fucking day. Staying alive indeed. ‘Now shut the fuck up before I change my mind about duct taping your mouth shut, too.’

‘You wouldn’t dare,’ he snarls.

I arch an eyebrow at him. ‘Try me.’

He opens his mouth, no doubt to unleash another tirade, but I cut him off. ‘One more word and I’ll throw you in the trunk with Nikolai.’

That shuts him up faster than I expected. His eyes go wide, darting to the back of the vehicle.

‘Nikolai’s back there?’

‘Yup.’

Raven’s face goes through a series of emotions too quickly for me to track. Shock, fear, hope, anger… it’s like watching a slot machine of fucked-up feelings.

Finally, he settles on a glare that could strip paint.

I can tell he’s still thinking, no doubt coming up with a plan to fuck me over and get back to chasing his omega across the goddamn wasteland. But he knows he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so for once, he keeps his mouth shut. The vehicle falls into blessed silence.

Small victories.
