Rejected the alpha mate 221
Summer POV
I was not surprised when Tamara said that she would go with ime, but I was surprised when she said that she didn’t have a ride. I mean, she was the ster of the Alpha of the pack which was organizing this event. Weren’t they super rich people? Couldn’t they afford a car for her? it made me think if she had an ulterior motive. But then Tamara smiled at me so softly that my heart melted.
“Sure,” I replied, wondering how Laura managed to send this car. Whose car was this? Or were participants allocated vehicles for personal use? Either way, it wasn’t my botheration.
As I sat down in the cai, I saw that a black Jeep came to stand in front of our car and another black one halted right behind us. And when Tamara sat in the car, the driver whipped his head back to look at her. There was a trace of fear on his face.
“L–Luna Tamara,” he said in a raspy voice.
She cocked her eyebrow. “Yes?”
He blinked at her as he glanced at me and then stuttered, “I–I had my ins–instructions to t–take Summer t–to-”
“To the ball,” Tamara finished his sentence rather angrily. She glared at him, and in a very cold voice ordered, “Take us to the ball.” The driver’s mouth dropped and he appeared tense. Tamara didn’t like his reaction. “Do you see the two Jeeps?” He nodded. “They are here for the security of the Luna. Now do as told, or you’ll see the dungeons in ten minutes.”
That was the last straw. The driver snapped his mouth and did as he was told. However, I was left wondering about the exchange of words between the driver and Tamara. It seemed like Tamara’s words were loaded with a threat. Being such an important member of the pack, how could a driver argue with her? And what instructions did he have about me? Why was there so much security around us? It must be because of Tamara, I guessed.
But something didn’t fit, and I found myself wringing my fingers in my lap. Tamara must have noticed. She brought her hand over mine and placed it softly.
“What are you worrying about?” she asked.
I shook my head. “Nothing. 1-” I glanced at the driver. “Where was I supposed to go?” I blurted.
The driver’s eyes met mine in the rear–view mirror. There was a hint of anger in them. But he immediately averted his gaze to the road. The two black Jeeps were still there, maintaining a comfortable distance.
“We are going to the ball,” Tamara said in an assuring voice which only made me think if the driver was taking me elsewhere.
A chill ran down my spine, and I nodded, feeling nervous. “I’ll take the back door of the venue,” I said, not wanting to go to the venue in my jeans and shirt. It would be so inappropriate. Not that I’d been in any ball all my life, but I had heard about the dresses.
Tamara smiled. “Why would you do that? You will walk with me inside the hall from the main entrance.”
“I-“I shook my head. “I don’t want to embarrass you.”
“You can never embarrass me, Summer,” she replied in a way that made me feel like I had some connection with her. A strange warmth tugged at my heart. No one had been this kind with me in all my life. So it was natural that I felt awkward.
Taking a deep breath in, I nodded again. Then I dared to ask her. “You said you didn’t want to go for the ball, then what made you change your mind?”
She chuckled. “You.”
I jerked my head back. “Me? Why?” I bunched up my shirt in my hands. “I’m not God, how do I tell her? But I pushed myself in case she had wrong notions about me. “I’m straight!” I blurted like a fool.
This time Tamara jerked her head back and then burst into laughter. What was so funny? My cheeks heated. Did I cross a line? I wanted to disappear in
thin air like new.
When she finally stopped laughing, she said “1 am happily married to Alpha Matt.” She lifted her hand and thewand me herning
“Oh!” And I blushed deeper. How could I miss that? “Then why?” I asked, feeling all the more stupid, Maybe I should crop estking,
“Because I wanted to be with you. That’s all,” she replied, glancing at the driver.
I couldn’t understand what was going on, but I gave her a small smile. “That’s very kind of you, thank you.” On the inside, I wished she was my friend, Such a lovely soul.
“Don’t thank me yet,” she said, winking.
We arrived at the venue soon. As soon as our car stopped, men from the Jeep in front of us jumped out and ran to open our doors. Surprise flickered through me when men from the Jeep behind surrounded us in a protective circle. They looked at me with keen interest, but realized that it was all because of Tamara. Some security she had. It was more than what Laura could even imagine.
Tamara walked in front of me.
The ballroom pulsed with light. Large chandeliers hung from the ceiling cast a warm glow over the people who were swirling in gowns and tuxedos as they moved along the marble floor. Music floated in the air. It was mixed with the rustle of silk and laughter. People clinked glasses as servers moved between the guests. As I stepped past the heavy double doors, heads turned. I found people staring at me, telling me silently that i didn’t belong to such an elite gathering. I withered under their stares, feeling so odd that I wanted the earth to crack up and swallow me.
I felt heat rising to my cheeks, and curled my hands at my side, nails biting into my palms. Every step felt like trespassing and every gaze whispered that did not belong here. So I lowered my head and followed Tamara till the end of the hall where Alpha of the Shadowfang pack was standing, and watching me intently.
“Bradley.” Tamara approached him with a soft knowing smile.
“Tammy,” he replied, still looking at me. I wanted to disappear. He was so tall and brooding Alpha as against a timid me. It was like if he wanted, he could snap me into two and I’d break easily. My breath hitched when I dared to lift my eyes and look into his stormy gray ones. God help me. Did the temperature of the ballroom go up? It seemed like the AC stopped working.
“Hi Summer,” Bradley said, extending his hand toward me. “Do you remember me?”
What was with the brother and sister asking me about remembering them all the time?
I took his hand immediately and froze in my spot. Did he feel the same? Like the electricity that zapped through me, making my toes curl? I laughed at my reaction internally. “Of course!” I breathed. “We met in the morning.”
He didn’t say anything and only continued to look at me. And I found myself jumping into the sea of his eyes that held a tempest. The world around me faded, and for a while it seemed like only the two of us existed in this plane. Or every plane in the universe.
Somehow, I pulled myself back to the present, feeling like a creep who didn’t want to leave the hand of the strongest Alpha. Did I come across as a gold digger? Oh, God no. I didn’t fit anywhere in this society. So the sooner I escaped, the better. I pulled my hand out of his, and I swear I heard him growling, like he didn’t like my act.noveldrama
“I have to go,” I muttered.
“Go where?” he asked, his eyes narrowing on me.
“Oh, the beautiful human from the morning. We meet again,” a heavy voice from behind me sounded, I turned to see that Alpha Damon was standing only at an arm’s length away. How did he spot me? And why was he looking so surprised.
“H–hello?” I said, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.
Bradley tensed as he stepped right beside me for some odd reason.
Damon arched an eyebrow, ignoring hit growls, Latira said that you were coming,” he said in a casual manner deathering ut nu po
i heard that growl again from Bradley, like it was that of an animal. It seemed like he wanted to fight with Damont. Did they have any aninos, them. Some old feud? Well, who was I to analyze that history? I needed to get out of here as soon as possible
Damon chuckled, shaking his head. He looked at Bradley. “She’s not good enough for your wolf, Alpha Bradley.”
Bradley’s eyes turned darker, and for the first time I noticed that he had fangs. A shudder ran down my body. But not out of fear. I oddly left… mintád “Who is good enough for you, Alpha Damon?” Bradley responded. Then he moved closer to him. “Let me remind you if you so much as lay a hand on any woman out here with wrong intentions, you’ll find yourself in deeper trouble than you ever thought possible.”
My eyes widened at how Bradley just threatened Damon. And for what? Damon clenched his jaw and then something in retaliation, Laura rushed toward us.
gave him a tight smile. Before he could say
“Summer! What are you doing here?” She looked at me in surprise and then snapped her head at Damon, her cheeks heating up.
“You asked me to come here,” I replied, feeling like a dumb. What was going on?
